Joanna Gaines Shares Son Crew, 5, Sweetly Told Her He Wants to ‘Marry a Korean Woman’ One Day (Exclusive)

Joanne Gaines’ son already has his future planned.

Speaking to PEOPLE about her new Magnolia Lake House collection with KILZ, the Magnolia founder, 46, shared some memories from a family trip to Korea last year. Stressing how much her almost six-year-old son Crew enjoyed the trip, the proud mum said he would often tell her he missed the country.

“There was something about that trip that affected all of us. And I certainly feel like we can always go back, I mean it was a trip that should have taken so many people, but I mean my girls, we all yearn again ” Gaines tells PEOPLE. “Such a part of our story that I feel is so significant.”

“But knowing that even my youngest boy it had such an impact on this little boy where he can still see it, smell it. He wants to come back. It’s such a gift, especially for my mom to witness.”

Gaines’ mom, Nan Stevens, is originally from Korea, and her parents met in Seoul when her father, Jerry Stevens, was stationed there with the United States Army.

“The other day his mom made him seaweed soup and he ate it. And he said, ‘How come I don’t look like a Korean all my life, but I have the same desires as a Korean?’ And my mom said: ‘What are you saying, that’s what you’re saying, you sound like a 20-year-old,’ says the mother of five about her youngest son.

“But even he is aware that he doesn’t look Korean and plump… but he even said one day, ‘I’m going to marry a Korean girl with black hair and eyes like yours, mom.’ And I say, ‘Oh my God.’ I mean, this is my 6-year-old, so that trip must have had an effect on him.”

Joanna shares her five children – Drake, 19, Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmie, 14, and Crew – with long-term husband Chip Gaines, 49.
