While Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber Full house characters were known for their 1980s and 90s hairstyles that used a lot of hairspray, unsurprisingly more natural looks were what they favored the most.
In the latest episode of their How rude, Tanneritos! podcast via iHeartRadio, former cast members spoke with series head hairstylist Frankie Bergman about the various hairstyles seen on Full house.
“It was also in the mid-80s [too] a lot of hairspray and holes in the ozone layer,” Sweetin, 42 — who played Stephanie Tanner — said on the podcast.

Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber were traumatized by this truly bizarre Full house A sequence of dreams
Barber, 48, who played Kimmy Gibler, said her hair in the later seasons, when she wore it straight and long, was her favorite.
“I was so excited to have straight hair because I straightened it with such a keratin treatment. My hair is naturally wavy, not naturally straight, so I was very excited to finally get it professionally straightened.”
Sweetin added that she also preferred to wear her hair straight when she played Stephanie. “My hair is naturally straight. Well, to curl it, you know, sponge curlers for the first few seasons, then little hot curlers with maggots that just slowly pulled your baby hairs out when you took them out of your head after seven hours.”
The perm, Sweetin added, “turned my hair into straw” — and even at-home methods of curling her hair required painstaking work.
Recalling her mom using “a sponge roller and a jar of Dippity Do hair gel every night,” Sweetin said she still has sensory memories of the experience.
“I can still hear those little hair rolls. They’re almost like cigarette rolls,” Sweetin added.

Sweetin also shared another memorable hair look, from Season 4, which takes place in a dream sequence.
“I had a big blue dress with feathers … and everybody was in a tuxedo and I loved that hair,” Sweetin said, “That look, I loved it. That was the only look [that] I cried when I had to take it off.”
Barber also recalled some moments she didn’t enjoy with her hair, such as a scene where she wore a red curly wig that caused a rash.
“There was an episode where DJ and maybe Stephanie were giving Kimmy makeup and Kimmy ends up with that red, messy hair,” she said. “It’s almost like a Ronald McDonald haircut.”
“Kimmy was so excited about it. She was like, ‘Oh, I’m finally one step ahead of Madonna,'” she added. “And I got a rash — it was such a tough paint or any synthetic material.”
