Joe Biden’s Doctor Releases Results of Annual Physical Exam

Joe Biden’s annual physical showed no signs of problems, according to his doctor, who said this year’s exam “did not reveal any new concerns.”

The president, 81, traveled to Walter Reed Medical Center for a routine check-up on Wednesday morning, and the White House promised to release a health report soon after.

“He remains fit for duty and fully fulfilling all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or adjustments,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote in a letter Wednesday afternoon, which was reviewed for accuracy by White House physicians and approved. Unit.

According to his health update, Biden is currently undergoing treatment for multiple “stable” medical conditions that include nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, hyperlipidemia, gastroesophageal reflux, seasonal allergies, sensory peripheral neuropathy in both feet, and his gait, which “remains stiff” but has not worsened in recent years. .

One new condition that emerged after last year’s exam—obstructive sleep apnea—also remains stable and has been alleviated with CPAP, as previously reported.

In February 2023, O’Connor called Biden a “healthy” and “strong 80-year-old” after his annual exam, adding that he is “still fit for duty.” The doctor used similar language in a report after Biden’s visit in November 2021, when the president also underwent a routine colonoscopy.

The change noted during the 2023 examination was a small lesion on the president’s chest that was removed and sent for a traditional biopsy. In a follow-up letter two weeks later, O’Connor wrote, “As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed.”

Prompting the questions, O’Connor explained in the letter that basal cell carcinoma lesions usually do not spread like more serious cancers. “However, they have the potential to increase in size, resulting in a more significant problem as well as increased challenges for surgical removal,” he added, noting that Biden would be kept under dermatological surveillance.

In the president’s 2024 health review, O’Connor said no further treatment was needed for the lesion.
