John Beasley News
John Beasley, a seasoned character actor who portrayed a loving school bus driver on the television drama ‘Everwood’ and had numerous appearances in films starting in the 1980s, has passed away. He was 79. Beasley passed away on Tuesday at an Omaha hospital following a “brief and unexpected illness,” according to his manager Don Spradlin.
In the 1993 football movie “Rudy,” Beasley portrayed an assistant coach, and in Robert Duvall’s co-starring and directed movie “The Apostle,” he portrayed a retired minister.
In the TV Land comedy “The Soul Man,” Beasley played the father of Cedric the Entertainer. He later co-starred for four seasons with Treat Williams in The WB’s “Everwood.”
Most recently, Beasley had supporting roles in the Disney+ Star Wars spinoff “The Mandalorian” and the Showtime drama “Your Honour” starring Bryan Cranston.
He oversaw the John Beasley Theatre and Workshop in Omaha, where he was born in 1943, for more than a dozen years. Beasley previously said, “To be a working artist is the highest calling, and I appreciate wherever it takes me,” to the magazine American Theatre.
His 58-year wife Judy, his two sons, Michael and Tyrone, and six grandchildren, including Malik Beasley of the Los Angeles Lakers, survive him.
The former NBA player honoured his grandfather on Instagram. He addressed it, “To the man who made the Beasleys famous.”
