John Janssen Recalls 'Extreme Rage' Ex Shannon Beador Allegedly Exhibited on Night of DUI: 'It's Like She Was Possessed'

John Janssen shares his version of events from the night ex-girlfriend Shannon Beador was under the influence of drugs.

Janssen sat down for an interview with Party tonight after the dramatic ending of the third part The Real Housewives of Orange County reunion. After filming for the reunion wrapped, the cameras started rolling again when Heather Dubrow and Tamra Judge revealed that Janssen admitted to hearing Beador crash her car in September 2023.

Beador was then charged with hit and run and driving under the influence. Her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit of 0.24. According to police, her car crashed into an apartment building. Shortly after, she got out of the car and was found walking a few blocks from the scene with her dog.

During the November 21 reunion episode, Beador said she found out that Janssen had heard her accident was “numbing” because she always thought she would “never know the answer” about what he knew from that night. “I heard him say that I hit him,” she admitted. “But I don’t remember everything. I don’t know what I did that night.”

In Janssen’s interview with EThe told the newspaper that he and Beador “were not together that night” because he was visiting Catalina Island with friends.

“I got home around 11, Shannon was at my house at 11, uninvited,” he claimed. “We didn’t talk. I didn’t expect to see her there. The level of intoxication was shocking and her problem was that she lost her phone. I was always there to help Shannon with her problems and I guess that was left at Uber.”

He then explained that the Uber driver brought the phone back to Shannon’s house. After walking “150 yards” to where she was staying to collect it, he placed the phone by her door so she could bring it in on the way inside to ensure she would not stay overnight at his house because of his drunken behavior towards her .

“That’s where the story gets bad,” Janssen said. “She was extremely furious because I didn’t return her phone. It was like she was possessed and she continued to physically attack me for probably the next minute and I was backing away the whole time.”

Around that time, Janssen said his daughters arrived, prompting him to beg Beador to leave. When he went to tell his daughters what was happening, Janssen claimed Beador followed him while “screaming at the top of her voice” and “threatening” his children. Janssen said she also allegedly let Beador’s dog, Archie, who was with him, outside when she went outside.

“I’ve got scratches on me and I’m pretty upset,” he recalled, later adding: “Archie’s running down the street now, so that caused a scene. And finally, she gets Archie. He comes to try to get his car. I stood in front of her to stop her from getting into her car, and I finally said, ‘Shannon, you’re a drunk idiot and you’re making a big mistake.’ And she gets in her car, reverses it out of my driveway, comes inches away from hitting one of my daughters.”

Afterward, Janssen said he felt the situation was out of his hands and feared for his daughters’ safety. They went inside only after Beador sped up, crashed and left – at that point they felt safe.

“I basically gave up, because I’m not going to touch her in any way, and then somehow be accused of something else,” he said. “So she went into reverse, almost hit my daughter, and then she sped around the corner and we heard the crash.”

“My instinct was to start running until I crash,” he added. “I did. So both my daughters stopped me and said, ‘Dad, you can’t go near her. We’re going.'”

Janssen says his daughters went to investigate and police cars showed up about an hour after the crash.

They brought Archie to him and he said that at that moment he “knew she was arrested”. When texts and phone calls went unanswered, Janssen said he called a local hospital and confirmed Beador was there.

“I said, ‘Can I come see her?’ AND [the nurse] said, ‘No, you can’t. You will not be allowed to see her. She has been arrested, so don’t come,’ he said. “After that, I was on and off on the phone all night, without sleep [Beador’s] daughter, and the next morning I was at the police station waiting for her to be released from prison.”

Janssen said he picked up Beador from jail the next morning and “put aside my sadness, my anger, my frustration about being terrorized that night and my daughter being terrorized that night.”

“I took her home, I helped her undress, I bathed her, I fed her, I did her grocery shopping, I took her laundry to the dry cleaners, I took her to a doctor’s appointment,” he said. “I took care of her for the next 10 days. Is that the guy who didn’t care?”

During that time, paparazzi began swarming his home, so Janssen said he took Beador to his ex The Real Housewives of Orange County member Vicki Gunvalson’s home in a gated community. Another incident, which he said he could not discuss, later allegedly occurred between Beador and one of his children, which Janssen said was “the last straw.”

“I called Shannon and said, ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t be friends with you. I have to completely separate myself from your world and your life,’ he said.

“I literally never wanted to tell this story,” he explained. “I wanted this story to die and it’s really sad that it was brought up on the show, because now it makes me have to explain, because the way it’s left now, it has too many negative implications for me and anyone who knows the whole truth about it. at night he wouldn’t think I’d done anything wrong.”

A representative for Beador declined to comment when contacted by PEOPLE.

The reality star previously called the night’s events “the worst moment of my life.” RHOC reunion.

In a statement to PEOPLE in September 2023 after her DUI, Shannon’s attorney, Michael L. Fell, said she was “extremely apologetic and remorseful” and “willing to accept full responsibility for her actions.”

After being sentenced to three years of probation and 40 hours of community service, Beador made her first public appearance at BravoCon in November 2023 and expressed remorse.

“It’s been a tough six weeks, but I’ll tell you I made a terrible mistake and — I don’t want to cry. I’m incredibly grateful that I didn’t hurt anyone,” she said. “I just finished a 28-day behavioral wellness program with an alcohol component and I was able to focus on the elements of my life that were unhealthy and toxic and I believe that today I am going in a good and positive direction.”
