However, when Jack Ryan the star talks about his family, he has nothing but love for his parents and older siblings.

“I come from an incredibly loving family,” John told Boston.com in 2016. “We’re still very close.”

The actor and director also openly praises his parents – Ronald and Mary Krasinski – for the job they did raising him and his brothers. He often calls his parents his “heroes” in interviews, and his appreciation for them has only grown since becoming a father himself.

“I really connected with my parents even more, thinking of them as young parents, like I am now,” John said. TODAY not long after he became the father of his first child, daughter Hazel. “I think you look back and realize what an incredible job they did.”

On October 20, 1979, John became the third boy born in the Krasinski clan. Their parents worked in medicine: Ronald, their father, was a general practitioner, and Mary, their mother, worked as a nurse at the Tufts University Nutrition Research Center, according to ELLE.

John, Paul and Kevin grew up in Newton, Massachusetts – a suburb about seven miles west of downtown Boston. The actor shared with Boston.com fond memories of visiting the New England town during his childhood and teenage years.

“We went to various different places,” he told the newspaper. “I used to ride my bike on the Charles River all the time. I went on Duck Tours, which I still do with my nephews and nieces. Weirdly, going to Faneuil Hall was always huge because when you’re in high school, it’s so busy and there are bars and restaurants and people.”

Growing up near Boston also contributed to John’s humble attitude, even as his acting career took off.

“There’s something about it with Boston,” he said Playboy 2018 about his inconspicuous behavior. “Everybody likes to celebrate when you’re doing well in Boston, but nobody wants to hear you say you’re the best.”

John, Paul and Kevin played basketball

All the Krasinski brothers played basketball in high school, according to ELLE – and John readily admits that both of his brothers were better than him at sports.

” ‘Did John Krasinski Play Basketball?’ Yes, I am,” revealed John in response to the most Googled questions about him for Wired magazine. “It’s not great – I’m actually the smallest in my family.”

He continued, “I’m 6’3″ and my brothers are 6’8″ and 6’9″, so as you can imagine, I wasn’t the best basketball player in my family.”

In fact, John’s lack of basketball skills is what initially led him to pursue acting. John followed his older brother Paul to Brown University, where he played center on the basketball team from 1994 to 1998. Paul was the team captain when John arrived at Brown, ELLEand John thought he would join.

“I remember [gym] the door opened and as it was closing I said, ‘No,'” John recalled Men’s health. “It wasn’t just how good they were and how big they were — you could see the commitment … I said, ‘This is not my college experience. I can’t do it.’ ”

John continued, “I know this sounds convenient, but that same day, I’m coming back from the gym, now I’m looking for a group to be a part of, and there’s a flyer on the tree.”

The flyer was a recruitment flyer for a sketch comedy group he joined — and became the catalyst that convinced him to pursue comedy and acting, according to Men’s health.

In season 5 of Office, the audience was introduced to Jim Halpert’s fictional brothers, Pete and Tom. When casting for the episode, John’s real-life brothers — and their towering heights — inspired the actors chosen for the roles, Jenna Fischer later revealed on Office ladies podcast.

Pete and Tom Halpert were played by actors Tug Coker and Blake Robbins. According to Fischer, the audition notes called for actors who were “six feet tall or taller, preferably with brown hair.”

“There’s a reason for that,” Fischer explained. “John Krasinski has two very tall brothers in real life and they thought this would be a fun nod to his family.”

“They’re like the ultimate family,” Angela Kinsey, who played Angela Officeit echoed.

Growing up with two older brothers was accompanied by a lot of rough behavior, John recalled in one episode Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

“There’s one of those old stories that says, oh, you always get beat up when you have all the brothers. It’s no joke,” John said. “My brother once said, ‘I’m surprised we all survived.’ ”

John went on to recount a particular incident involving himself and his older brother Paul. According to the actor’s retelling, Paul approached John when he was about 8 years old and started hitting him for no apparent reason. John retorted by grabbing a nearby toy and throwing it at his older brother.

“It was a huge lawn dart, called a jart,” John said of the object he threw that hit his brother in the head. “It goes up in the air and just crashes into his head.”

He joked, “They’re illegal in every state now because of my case.”

The feud between the brothers eventually died down as they grew up – but the lawn dart incident remained infamous, according to John.

“I was best man at his wedding and at the rehearsal dinner, I gave him a lawn dart on the board,” John said. “It was his wedding date and it said ‘Always remember.’ ”

Kevin is an orthopedic surgeon

Kevin is the only one of the Krasinski brothers who followed in his parents’ footsteps and practiced medicine. He currently works in North Carolina as an orthopedic surgeon, specializing in sports medicine and shoulder and knee injuries, according to his bio.

Kevin attended Colgate University, where he majored in biology, and medical school at Tufts. After completing his residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, he received specialty training in orthopedic sports medicine at Duke University.

His specialty in sports medicine led him to serve as team physician for Boston College athletics and associate team physician for Duke University and the University of North Carolina. Kevin currently works as a consultant in orthopedic surgery for the Burlington Royals, a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Kansas City Royals.

After attending Brown University and Columbia Business School, Paul became a tech mogul. He is currently the founder and CEO of Epicenter Experience, a Boston-based company that “enables consumers and brands to communicate directly through mobile, share their on-location experiences and exchange value to make everyday interactions more valuable,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

Paul is also the founder of Farmhouse, a 10-acre refuge in Massachusetts designed to help young people discover their passion in life and give them the tools to realize their dreams.

“Until now, there really hasn’t been a place where people who are struggling to find their way can go and interact with others like them,” Paul told PEOPLE about the project. “The Farmhouse is this place.”

Outside of his professional life, Paul lives in Boston with his two sons, according to his LinkedIn.

Paul and Kevin’s height wasn’t the only thing they had an influence on Office: John revealed that one of his brothers inspired a controversial storyline for Jim and Pam in the ninth and final season of the hit comedy series.

In season 9 Office, Jim and Pam experience marital problems as a result of Jim taking a job at a startup that required him to be in Philadelphia—leaving Pam with their two children in Scranton. The plot was originally conceived by John, and was inspired by the career of one of his brothers.

“The idea for him to go to another city actually came from my brother,” John told DailyActor.com about Jim taking the job in Philadelphia. “In his work early in his business, he was traveling a lot around the country for all his different clients and, you know, it definitely put pressure on the family in a very new way.”

He continued: “Obviously, it wasn’t as dramatic as what we did on the show, but it was a thing where seemingly simple things like basically spending time with your kids and in the same city became harder and harder. , and taxing – you know just harder to do and – mentally.”

Although John didn’t specify which brother inspired the story, his brother Paul spent his career working for various tech start-ups — similar to the role Jim took on. Office.
