John Clayton Mayer was born on October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Fairfield is where he grew up. His father, Richard Mayer, was a high school administrator, and Margaret Mayer, his mother, was a high school English teacher. He has two brothers. He spent his freshman year at Norwalk’s Brien McMahon High School Center for Global Studies. He became interested in the guitar after seeing Michael J. Fox playing in a movie. After hearing the songs of Stevie Ray Vaughan, he fell in love with blues music.
When he was 13, his father rented him a guitar. He also performed in the band ‘Villanova Junction’, which included Tim Procaccini, Rich Wolf and Joe Beleznay.
