John Mulaney Shares the Unusual Gifts He Gave Daughter Méi for Her 3-Month Birthday (Exclusive)

On Monday, December 16, the comedian attended the opening of his show ALL IN: Comedy about love in New York and revealed the fun way his daughter and wife Olivia Munn celebrated her recent 3-month birthday.

“We had some wrinkled paper that was black and white, which is a really good contrast to the 3-month-old’s eyes, and she put her hand on it and then played with it herself,” Mulaney, 42, tells PEOPLE.

He also said he spends as much time as he can with his little one between jobs and even uses his own styling skills when it comes to dressing Méi for events.

“I came home from the play last night around 11 pm and [the] the good thing about a 3-month-old is that he’s awake,” she recalls. “So I held her for a few hours, and then this morning we put a bow on her head. She had no choice.”

The crumpled piece of paper was not the only gift the three-month-old received. Mulaney also revealed that he has been giving his little one some precious time with actor Richard Kind in a recent Instagram post. In the video, Kind (68) can be seen making a crying face while holding Méi, who appeared calm.

“Happy three month birthday my little plum. Got you Richard Kind as a gift,” Mulaney captioned the post, with Munn jokingly adding, “One of these two people is on Broadway right now with John.”

Last week, the actress shared on Instagram a look at her and Mulaney’s life so far with their daughter, who was born via surrogate in September. She posted a video of herself and Méa cuddling by the fireplace, along with photos of a few family moments ahead of the holidays.

In one clip, the mom-of-two asks the three-month-old if she can say “hello” before picking her up and marveling at her cuteness. “You’re so cute. You’re so chubby and cute,” she could be seen telling her daughter before petting her several times.

Another tribute video showed Méa’s older brother, Munn and Mulaney’s son Malcolm Hiep, sharing a funny moment with his little sister. “Is he coughing?” Malcolm, 3, could be seen asking in the video as Munn replied that she was just “missing soft sounds”.

The siblings could also be seen cuddling on a chair in one photo and hanging out with each other. Munn also included a shot of herself holding Méi and standing with Malcolm by the family Christmas tree and Méi in cozy winter gear.

“Three months have passed 🥰”, she wrote in the post.

Munn allowed Méa to help her prepare to attend the Broadway premiere of her husband’s play. The pair sat together in a make-up chair, with Munn writing: “Trying to get dewy like Méi.”

Munn and Mulaney posed together after the show, with News star wrote, “So proud of this Broadway baby.”
