John Stamos Says Bob Saget Would’ve Been the Mediator to Fix ‘Dynamics’ Among Full House Cast: ‘He Was the Glue’

John Stamos opens up about where he is Full house The cast is currently without beloved costar Bob Saget.

The If you had told me author tells PEOPLE that Saget — who died in January 2022 at age 65 — was the “glue” that “brought us all together” in the years since the ABC sitcom ended in 1995.

“To be very honest with you, he was the glue. And now it’s rare… you know, we’re not all together,” he continues. “I think there’s a dynamic going on with the cast that maybe, I think, Bob would probably be the guy to come in and [fix things].”

“I’m not going to do that. I’m not going to get involved in whatever happens,” he continues. “It’s not what you think it is. I mean, I think there’s other things. But Bob was always the one. He was the glue. He’d be there now.”

Significant political differences between Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron Bure have fueled speculation about the pair’s current off-screen relationship. However, amid the rumours, the two former on-screen sisters recently reunited at the 90s Conference in Tampa with another Full house alum last month.

Stamos did not elaborate on what the current “dynamic” entails. However big beast the actor tells PEOPLE, “We’re still just as close.”

As for whether things have gotten easier since Saget’s unexpected death, Stamos admits that “something is definitely missing” — but he’s still doing what he can to keep his friend’s memory alive.

“I talk about him all the time,” he says. “You know that movie Coco, where they say, ‘You have to keep talking about people who are dead or they’re going to die up there again,’ or whatever. Put pictures. I talk about him all the time.”

Stamos then jokes, “And if I don’t, I can hear him complaining upstairs. But that’s how I kept him alive.”

John Stamos chokes up as he recalls a trip to Disneyland with his late friend Bob Saget

Part of the inspiration for choosing a writer for his debut memoir came after Stamos wrote an emotional but heartfelt speech for Saget that he gave at a memorial service for the late comedian in 2022. Before that, General Hospital alum didn’t think it was “interesting enough” and was “worried about being able to come up with enough” material.

“The only reason I said yes was because I was thinking about Bob,” he explains. “And then I found these notes, my mom’s notes, that kind of guided me through it. And I said, ‘OK, so there’s a starting point.’
