John Wick’s Paco Delgado: Chapter 4

Rant Screen: How to John wick Suitstakes here, what does it mean?

Paco Delgado: John Wick: Chapter 4 is out in a few weeks and Lionsgate has already started a partnership with Hard Rock Hotels, which I think is a great idea. It’s an idea for the people we design to be influenced by what I do for John Wick, and I think that’s great. As you know, Hard Rock Hotels is great, they have a memorable collection of clothes and everything related to fashion and rock music. And I think owning a custom John Wick suit that I designed is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

as a costume designer John wick franchise, can you share a little bit about the process of creating John’s look and how it has evolved throughout the collection?

Paco Delgado: Well, I think it’s very important to design an outfit that fits the fashion world John Wick lives in, and I think that’s easy because when he’s working with Keanu, he’s very clean. elegant and easy to wear. The only thing we wanted to do was continue the style of the previous film, but at the same time, we wanted to enhance it. We had a great opportunity to shoot a part of the movie in Osaka, and I thought it was a way to showcase the Japanese style of clothing, and it was a very interesting project.

Scott Adkins Killa John Wick Chapter 4 Images

Scott Adkins at John Wick: Chapter 4. What can you share about designing his suit and having to coordinate with his prosthetic?

Paco Delgado: I can say that’s really interesting.chad [Stahelski] There was an idea that he had to be a big guy, and we built a prosthetic first because at first I was wondering ‘how do you make a costume for someone you don’t know? do not know their size? So we decided to start with the prosthesis, put Scott in it and measure him the way we would measure someone without a prosthesis.

Then we made the suit and we had to do a lot of trial and error because it was difficult to calculate the numbers and the amount of fabric we needed because it was so big. Then Chad wanted him to wear red, so it was also a fashion statement, because if you’re facing a criminal, you can say “dress him up in black” , but that’s one of Chad’s good ideas.

Can you share how you would make the suit for the Suitstakes winner?

Paco Delgado: I think the most important thing is to create a suit that really suits John Wick, and it has nothing to do with whether the winner is a woman or a man. Obviously, it has to come from the winner’s dialogue. I think my process will be exactly the same as I did on the film, talking to the winners, learning their body types and trying to understand what to expect from them. That’s what I usually do with actors before I start designing the costumes, so I do it and customize it, which is something we’re not used to in everyday life. A tailored suit is an extremely luxury item that very few people have in their lifetime, so we wanted to dedicate this wonderful gift to the winner.

John Wick Chapter 4 Bill Skarsgard and Marko Zaror

Who is your new favorite character? John Wick: Chapter 4 Who do you design clothes for?

Paco Delgado: Well, the point is, John Wick meets a lot of well-dressed people, especially in this movie, and it’s like asking my mom who her favorite son is! The surprising thing about this movie is that everyone comes from very different backgrounds. With Donnie we had to be very stylish, he was very specific about what he wanted, he brought all his martial arts background and it was great to work with him. He has very clear ideas of what he wants.

For example, Bill Skarsgard as Marquis of Gramont, I’m a big fan of him because we made him extravagant, almost aristocratic. We played with the ball cloth, which was fun, and then there was Hiroyuki Sanada, who played the role of Shimadzu. It was another twist, because I wanted him to be a blend of Japanese tradition and the way Japan took on the Western world. I have a kimono he designed inspired by something from the Imperial Museum of Japan.

When is Shamir [Anderson] Tracker and Rina Sawaya, who play a completely different character, she’s one of the few women in the movie, so it’s a different design, with a different style. In addition, Natalia [Tena]It was fun working with her and we wanted to get a feel for the Rockfish character with her, then Marko Zaror and others.

with John wick How does a series filled with gunfight, martial arts and sword action influence costume designers? When the actors do the fight scenes, are their suits damaged or torn, and do you need a lot of spares for them to participate?

Paco Delgado: Imagine that. I think Keanu has three suitable variations. We did almost 20 reps each, if not more. You have to think about Keanu doing a scene that could be underwater, or you have a lot of shots in a limited amount of time and you have to change your costume three or four times a day. Then you have his standalone photos and also you have to think about how you make the clothes because the way they are made they need to be easy to move but sometimes you can against them and sometimes you don’t want to. The suits can be dropped for a greater impact on the screen. So you have to think about a lot of things.

One of the big obsessions is trying to find materials that look like regular men’s suits, but they have elastane inside so they can work in the sense of being able to jump on a motorcycle or jump out a window . Technically, it’s very, very interesting how all of this affects what you design. It’s not just about fashion, there’s a lot about how these clothes are made to be both functional and beautiful. I hope designing this suit with my partners at Hard Rock Café will be a great experience and I’m really looking forward to it!
