JoJo Siwa opens up about her viral magazine cover story.
On Tuesday, October 8, the 21-year-old dancer and singer appeared on Speak Tuah podcast hosted by Haliey Welch, also known as “Hawk Tuah Girl”. During the conversation, Welch, also 21, mentioned Siwa’s recent photo that made headlines for LadyGunn in which she donned an embellished chest plate and a fake bump.
“The stone ledge is — we just put a little spice, a little gender change, a little, you can be whatever you want,” Siwa said of the ensemble. “I just spiced things up a bit.”
The Dance moms alum also compared the viral moment to the controversial Harry Styles Vogue 2020 cover “It’s like Harry Styles was wearing a dress,” Siwa continued. “Obviously wearing a bump is a little different than wearing a dress.”

She further explained, “One thing about me is that I like to be for people who are different, people who don’t fit in, and people who just aren’t afraid to take risks. And I feel like that person, I have to go as far as possible to take risks. ”
The PEOPLE Puzzler has arrived! How fast can you solve it? Let go now! As for the reaction to the photo, the “Karma” singer says, “It’s brutal.”
– It’s really hard – she added. “People are just d—s.”

Styles, 30, cemented himself as a fashion trailblazer with his December 2020 cover Vogue. In addition to being the first man to grace the iconic magazine’s cover in his own right, the Grammy winner also rocked the internet for wearing a lace-trimmed dress and tuxedo jacket. The look was created by his friend and (former) creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele.

“Clothes are there to have fun and experiment and play with. What’s really exciting is that all these lines are just falling apart,” Styles said in the cover story. “When you take away ‘There’s men’s clothing and there’s women’s clothing,’ once you remove all the barriers, you obviously open up an arena where you can play.”
He continued: “Sometimes I go into stores and I just catch myself looking at women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing. It’s like anything – whenever you put barriers in your own life, you’re just limiting yourself. There’s so much joy in playing with clothes. I’m never too thought about what that means—it just becomes this extended part of creating something.”
