Todd Phillips celebrates four years since the premiere of the film Joker.
To mark the occasion on Wednesday, the 52-year-old director took to Instagram to share a photo of Joaquin Phoenix as lead character Arthur Fleck/Joker, staring out into the rain with his eyes closed while surrounded by multicolored umbrellas.
“October 4th. Thanks for all the messages. We had a good ride four years ago. Lots of great memories. More to come,” Phillips wrote in the caption.
The second part of his comment seems to have been a tease for his upcoming musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deuxin which Phoenix (48) will reprise his sinister role, this time alongside Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
The film is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024 — which is also, notably, Jokerfifth anniversary.

After success Jokerwhich included setting world box office records and winning two Oscars (including the coveted Best Actor award for Phoenix), the next film has been officially confirmed for June 2022.
That same month, PEOPLE confirmed that Gaga, 37, was in talks to play Dr. Harleen “Harley Quinn” Quinzel. The first place to share news, The Hollywood Reporter said that Gaga’s Harley would exist “in a different DC universe” than the one played by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of prey (2020) and Suicide Squad (2020).
Phillips also co-wrote the script with Scott Silver for the sequel, and produced it with Bradley Cooper (who previously starred opposite Gaga in A star is born).
Additional cast members include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey. Zazie Beetz will also reprise her role as Sophie Dumond from the first film.

Phoenix was first seen on the set of the new film in Los Angeles in March, while Gaga was snapped on set in New York the following month, with her face smeared with clown make-up.
Also in April, both Gaga and Phillips confirmed that principal production had been completed Joker: Folie à Deux, sharing photos of her and Phoenix from the set on their respective Instagram pages.
One image showed Gaga staring into the camera while wearing light clown makeup, while another showed Phoenix in full makeup and costume, head tilted to the right in a seated position.
“That’s it. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew the movie industry has to offer. Top to bottom,” Phillips captioned the two photos. “Now I’m going to crawl into the cave (edit room) and put it all together.”
Gaga delivered her message to eagerly awaiting fans Joker short follow-up, simply written: “That’s good ❤️🔥 🎬🃏 X, Harleen.”
