Sometimes it takes a second chance at love to make things right – at least that was the case with Jon Cryer.
Emmy-winning actor, currently starring in an NBC sitcom Extended familytells PEOPLE that the moment he said “I do” to Lisa Joyner in Mexico in 2007 was “the happiest day of his life.”
“The key to a good marriage is 100 percent a sense of humor, because whenever there are difficult things in a marriage—and there are—laughing about it makes the biggest difference,” shares Cryer. “It’s about having someone in your corner no matter what, and I’m so lucky to be that guy for my wife. She was by my side every time I had a hard time.”

Father to four-year-old daughter Daisy with Joyner, Cryer also shares son Charlie, 23, with ex-wife Sarah Trigger. Although his first marriage ended in 2004, the actor still believes that his previous relationships taught him invaluable lessons that helped him become the partner he is today.
“The great thing about a second marriage is that you know what your flaws are. They were brought to help, and we hope that you took some comfort from them,” he explains. “When you’re more comfortable with yourself, you can actually love someone a lot better, and I think my previous relationships were always about trying to be someone I thought I needed to be instead of being who I was.”

Cryer, 58, and Joyner, 56, weren’t shy about sharing their adventures together as a couple. For Cryer’s 57th birthday in April 2022, the couple celebrated the milestone in Paris and posted a sweet selfie on X (formerly Twitter) with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
“Happy birthday @MrJonCryer, you are an international treasure,” she wrote alongside a picture of herself and her husband with Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower in the background. “I love you hubby!”
In October 2020, Two and a half Men The alum also shared the epic saga of losing his wedding ring while walking in the rain by the ocean in Vancouver. Luckily, he was eventually found with the help of a metal detector and Chris Turner of The Ring Finders.
“Chris, you didn’t just find the ring. You may have saved the marriage. That ring meant so much. It has so many memories behind it. Now, Jon, go resize it!” Joyner later told PEOPLE about the incident.
Joyner said her husband “shyly” called her from the park while searching for the lost band after failing to find it on the first try.
“I was sad, but I didn’t want to make him feel worse because I knew how bad he felt,” she said at the time.

But the fact that Cryer went to such lengths to find the wedding ring made Joyner “love it even more.”
“I was very happy. Mostly I was happy for him because I knew he was very sad about it,” she explained. “It was meant to be. We weren’t meant to lose that ring. We’ve been through too much with each other. I was so relieved.”
