Jon M. Chu shares the first adorable snap of his new baby girl!
On Saturday, November 9, Wicked The director (45) posted a video on his Instagram Stories of his daughter, the fifth child, in the hospital shortly after she was born. Her arrival happened on the same day as the Los Angeles premiere of the highly anticipated film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
“I can’t believe this happened while the movie is premiering,” Chu wrote in a video message. “Magic is in the air.”
“Happy Premiere Day!! Welcome to our world, you will be great. You have a lot of witches on your side 💚🫧,” he concluded.
In the video, Chu’s wife, Kristen Hodge, lies in a hospital bed with their baby girl sleeping on her chest. Both were covered with a blanket as Hodge gently rocked the couple’s new arrival. A rendition of Danny Wright’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is played on top of the recording.
On November 9, Chu posted a video of his wife Hodges with their newborn daughter in the hospital.

Jon M. Chu is missing Wicked Premiere in LA for the birth of the fifth baby: ‘There was a change of plans’
Their newborn daughter grabbed Hodges’ finger and at one point in the video gave a small yawn before wrapping her mouth around her mom’s hand.
During the LA premiere on Saturday, November 9, a video was shared on the movie screen showing Chu filmed in the hospital giving a speech explaining why he was unable to attend.
“I’m so sorry I can’t be there,” he began in the clip. “It is now November 9. I was at the hotel across the street ready to come.”
“…I’ve waited three years to get this moment to share a movie with you, but I’ve been waiting all my life to get this moment to now have my fifth child,” Wicked the director continued. “Of course this little girl knows when to show up on opening day.”

“Anyway, I wish I could be there, but here I am,” Chu concluded, thanking the cast, crew and fans Wicked.
Earlier in the day, Chu shared on his Instagram stories that he had a “change of plans” around “around 4:00 this morning” and that he will miss him Wicked premiered in LA as he and his wife welcomed their fifth child, a girl.
“This movie has always moved in mysterious ways,” Chu wrote, posting a photo of a black and green friendship bracelet that read “Defy Gravity” on a hospital room table.
Chu previously said on November 9 that he had to miss the premiere of his film ‘Wicked’ in LA after his wife went into labour.

“Today is the day I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. Two babies (a movie and a girl) at once and I really couldn’t be happier that I won’t be able to be at Wicked Premiere tonight with all of you,” he continued.

Chu and his wife are already parents to four children: daughters Willow, 7, and Ruby, 3, son Jonathan Heights, 5, and a child named Iggy, 20 months.
