Jonathan Bailey Rehearsed His Big Wicked Number While Working on 2 Other Major Projects (Exclusive)

Jonathan Bailey is always full and busy!

The actor, 36, rehearsed a big musical number for Wicked while recording at the same time Bridgerton and Companions.

“I have videos on my phone of me working out on long flights,” Bailey says in a new PEOPLE special Wicked a rehearsal edition of his character Prince Fiyer Tigelaar’s big dance performance, “Dance Through Life”, amid his other projects.

At one point in his trip, Bailey even encountered circumstances that weren’t ideal for his royal role, as his airline lost his luggage while traveling from Canada.

Leaving him with only the clothes on his back, Bailey still had access to Fiyer’s magical dancing boots, which were in his carry-on bag.

Wickedthe upcoming film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical stars Ariana Grande as Glinda, alongside Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Elphaba. (The original Broadway cast of the musical featured Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the roles.)

Others attached to the project, directed by Jon M. Chu, include Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamonda, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee and Bronwyn James as ShenShen.

Bailey tells PEOPLE that his character “has this golden sheen of privilege where everything comes so easily to him that the most interesting thing for him is to piss everyone off.”
