Jonathan Capehart, a famous journalist, is happily married. Since their wedding on January 7, 2017, he has been married to his wife Nick Schmit. Schmit, for those who don’t know, is a former assistant director of reception for the State Department. Former US Attorney General Eric Holder presided over the couple’s wedding and is said to have paused during the ceremony to erase his emotions.
“I don’t know how many marriages I’ve been through,” added Holder, who appeared stunned after conducting the brief ceremony. “This is the first time I cried as an officer.”
Capehart and Schmit had known each other for about six years at the time of their wedding and had been engaged for eight months.

According to the New York Times, Jed Hastings, now married to Joe Solmonese, former leader of the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT rights organization, approached Capehart on a joint mission in the spring of 2010. Hastings informed informed the writer that his sister Tazbina has a cousin, Schmit, who recently moved to Washington. However, since Capehart was seeing someone at the time, he immediately dismissed the idea.
Hastings, on the other hand, didn’t give up and contacted Capehart on Facebook six months later. This time, the 54-year-old asked to be “photographed”, just like any other journalist. The executor introduced the two in a combined message after spotting Schmitt in the photos and approving of what he saw. The Carleton University graduate was immediately pleased with Schmit’s English fluency through instant chats – note that his current husband understands the difference between “your” and “your” you’re” and “his” and “it’s”. On the other hand, Schmit was surprised to realize that the person he saw on television was a humble and personable person.
