Jonathan excelled in three sports, including basketball, where he won a state championship as a point guard. Until he got injured, which ended his career. During the 2003-2005 seasons, he worked as a volunteer assistant for the program. He served as a graduate assistant for Louisville’s 2006 Orange Bowl victory.
Additionally, he was hired by the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 as the defensive quality control coach. Later, in 2009, he was hired by St. Louis Rams. Gannon followed Petrino to the Falcons, but it was a disaster for the latter team, so he worked as a scout for the Rams for three seasons. Before returning to coaching, he served as a defensive assistant and quality control coach for the Titans under Mike Munchak.
Gannon returned to coaching after being hired by the Tennessee Titans in 2012. In 2014, the Minnesota Vikings hired him as their assistant defensive backs and defensive quality control coach. He served in this role for four seasons before leaving the Vikings at the end of the 2017 season. Furthermore, he was hired as the defensive backs and cornerbacks coach of the Indianapolis Colts under head coach Frank Reich in 2018, remaining until 2020.
