Jono Lancaster News
A 37-year-old West Yorkshire resident described how his birth parents rejected him due to a facial issue, filling him with “hate” for his appearance. He has since learned to accept himself as he is and to support those who are battling their own problems. Treacher Collins Syndrome, which affects how a child’s facial structure develops in the womb, is what Jono Lancaster has.
He shared his personal experience with the BBC, including how he was tormented at school, rejected by his parents, and prevented from having a romantic relationship as a teenager. He explained his circumstance by saying, “I don’t have any cheekbones, so my eyes appear the way they are.”
He added, patting his ears, “I call them my little Bart Simpson ears.” Despite having a lot of good school memories, the motivational speaker claimed he was constantly attempting to blend in and be like everyone else.
When he reflected on his time in high school, he said: “I have so many wonderful memories, but I also had a lot of struggles trying to fit in.
The elder children used to pull their eyeballs. They would make up songs or chants about me. “That kind of didn’t really happen for me as I got older and people started getting into relationships,” he continued. And that’s when I started to detest my face so much.
Jon was abandoned by his birth parents as a baby and was taken in by a kind family. When he was 24, he came across a paper that proved his worst suspicions—that his parents had abandoned him because of the way he looked—to be true.

“I sat down and read these notes, and the language was awful,” he remarked. It continues by saying that my birth parents were horrified by how I looked. “My birth parents left within 36 hours of my birth.”
He said, “I was in a really really dark angry place when I thought about my birth parents. I wanted to hurt them as much as I was hurting.” Despite his anger, he managed to find it in himself to get in touch with those who had shunned him due to his appearance.
