Josef Lewkowicz News

A Holocaust survivor who endured six concentration camps, including Auschwitz, has revealed a horrifying incident in which a Jew was murdered simply because the Nazis found him too “handsome” to handle. Josef Lewkowicz, 96, exposed the crimes committed by Amon Goeth, also known as the Butcher of Paszów, whom he hunted down and confronted after his release.

The Austrian Nazi officer was eventually located in the Dachau camp after the war, where he hid under an assumed name.

The Polish-born author spoke on Good Morning Britain about a single terrifying example of the villain, played by Ralph Fiennes in the 1993 film Schindler’s List, and his “mad” mentality. We trembled as he passed through the camps because we had no idea what this madman would do.

Once a scary monster shot a man in front of him just because he said he “couldn’t stand a handsome Jew.” Josef describes how the man who abused him for years was arrested in his new book, The Survivor, after he offered his skills to the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.

He admitted to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls that his “blood boiled” when he first saw Goethe at Dachau in 1946, looking like a “beggar”. Josef has been criticized for his brutality by US intelligence, but he doesn’t feel bad about it.

I can assure you that my survival is not a miracle, he said in his closing remarks. “Surviving every day was a miracle.” Since a miracle was needed to survive during the day, we prayed that it would be night during the day. At night we expected it to be day.

When Josef was just 14 years old, he was assigned his first mission in the Polish concentration camp in Paszów, which involved pushing human remains onto carts. It was the start of three years of torture that included being sent as a teenager to five different camps.

He witnessed starving inmates killing each other at the time, when the Nazis killed all 150 members of his family. Josef once described how the situation in the Austrian Ebensee detention camp became unbearable as he watched starving people burn the body of a dead Russian child.

“A young Russian man died and a bunch of Russians went and cut off his whole behind, started a fire with branches and dry wood, cooked human flesh and ate it,” he told The Sun in 2019.
