Josh Allen talks about how he felt the moment he proposed to his now-fiancée Hailee Steinfeld.
On Friday, Dec. 6, the Buffalo Bills linebacker, 28, wrote about the nervous moments leading up to the proposal just two weeks ago for a Q&A session in Steinfeld’s Beau Society newsletter.
“The funniest thing was we woke up and we were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said, ‘Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!'” Allen recalled in the newsletter, per. Hey! News.
“I replied: ‘Just give me a little more time.’ You didn’t even know I was going to propose to you…” he added.
According to Allen, the day was especially scary because he was sure that falcon’s eye the actress, 27, was about to figure out what she was up to.
“I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” she wrote. “It was hard keeping secrets from you and having other people in your life keep secrets from you. Several times throughout the day the song would come on and I would cry thinking about how special our day was going to be.”

Luckily, Allen had planned what he was going to say in advance, and Steinfeld was totally impressed with the floral arrangement he made for her.
“I said I couldn’t wait any longer,” he revealed. “I said I can’t wait to start a family with you. I said your full name and I asked you nicely. I said please.”
“I didn’t blow it and neither did anyone else,” the NFL star added. “You were very surprised, you said yes, and that was the only thing that mattered to me.
Allen ended his portion of the newsletter by writing that it’s an “amazing” feeling to be engaged “to someone so special and loving and caring and wonderful and fun and happy.”
Steinfeld also chimed in, adding that the couple isn’t quite ready to reveal their plans for the big day just yet.
“All the happy tears have barely dried,” she added. “Whenever we tell the story, look at the photos, or even say ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married,’ I start to cry.”

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star and the quarterback first announced their engagement on Friday, Nov. 29, when they shared a romantic photo together on Instagram of Allen getting down on one knee in front of Steinfeld.
The couple was surrounded by an arch of pink and red roses next to the water surface. They titled the post with just a simple date: November 22.
Steinfeld and Allen were first linked in May 2023, and a source confirmed their relationship to PEOPLE in May 2023, sharing at the time that the new couple was “dating.”
A source close to the couple told PEOPLE shortly after the proposal that their families were excited about the engagement news.
“They were head over heels from the beginning,” says the source. – Their families are delighted.
