The England hero was the subject of a UEFA investigation for the gesture he made after scoring in Sunday’s 2-1 win against Slovakia at the Euros.

Bellingham, 21, feigned grabbing his crotch in a move that signaled he had what it took in a crisis.

The match officials did not mention the gesture in their match reports, but Uefa intervened anyway.

However, Bellingham has now been cleared of all wrongdoing and is ready to play against Switzerland.

The England star was fined £25,000 and banned for one match, with a 12-month suspension.

The Real Madrid star defended his controversial gesture, saying it was aimed at close friends at the game, not opponents.

He added: “Nothing but respect for the way that Slovakian team played tonight.”

Piers Morgan also came to Bellingham’s defense citing ten reasons why he might have made the gesture.

England’s plan for five-point penalties

EXPERT football psychologist Professor Geir Jordet has told Gareth Southgate and his players what they can do to give themselves the best chance of winning any rally.

And he even threw in a fake, bold proposal for the manager of the Three Lions…

1. START PLANNING LAST YEAR

“It’s about planning the opposing penalty takers, but also ‘how are we going to win the psychological game against each opponent?’

2. SMART LEADERSHIP OF SOUTHGATE

“Southgate will have two minutes to influence his players as effectively as possible, show he has a plan and gain confidence.”

3. DICTATE AS A TEAM

“The shootout is really a team performance. Have the goalkeeper walk with the penalty taker into the penalty area to actually create a two-on-one against the other goalkeeper. Dominate the center circle, support the players who miss.”

4. “BULLETPROOF” INDIVIDUAL ROUTINES.

“Have really good, individualized and practiced pre-shooting routines that are bulletproof and polished so they’re more likely to be able to withstand the stress and more likely to score.”

5. TAKE YOUR SHOT

“Practice the kick yourself, trying to simulate a penalty shootout in training. Even recreating 20 percent of the final penalty shootout at the Euros will benefit your performance.”

AND ONE IDEA FOR DECLINE…

Jordan Pickford is No.1, but Dean Henderson actually has a far better penalty output – saving 8/22 (36 per cent) compared to Pickford’s 8/62 (13 per cent).

Jordet said: “One could consider a late substitution to take the penalty. I doubt they dare to do that in case it doesn’t work and the pressure is even greater, but that would be a very rude move.”

One reason could be Bellingham wanted to show he has “huge cojones” after saving the Three Lions from the brink of elimination with his overhead kick in the final minute.

He even made the exact same gesture when he scored the winner in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win against Barcelona in El Clasico in April.

Uefa announced the results of its investigation on Friday morning.

And Bellingham was fined £25,000, as well as suspended for one match, for “violating the basic rules of decent behaviour”.

The FA were also fined for crowd disturbance and setting off fireworks, receiving a £9,000 fine.

A UEFA statement read: “UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine the English Football Association €10,000 for crowd disorder.

(He also decided) to fine the English Football Association €1,000 for setting off fireworks.

“And to fine the England Football Association player Jude Bellingham €30,000 and suspend him for a total of one UEFA competition match for which he would otherwise be eligible for breaching the basic rules of decent behaviour.

“Said suspension shall not be implemented immediately and shall be subject to a probationary period of one (1) year, commencing from the date of this decision.”

Bellingham is not the only player who fouled the fall of Uefa today.

Turkey’s goalscoring hero Merih Demiral has been handed a two-match ban for his controversial ‘Grey Wolf’ celebration against Austria.

The symbol is associated with the far right in his country.

And after scoring both goals in Turkey’s 2-1 win in the last 16, he will now miss the quarter-final against the Netherlands — and the semi-final if his side make it that far.

UEFA’s statement added: “The UEFA Appeals Body has decided to suspend Turkish Football Association player Merih Demiral, for a total of two (2) matches of UEFA representative team competitions for which he would otherwise be entitled, for non-compliance with the general principles of conduct, for violating fundamental rules of decent behavior, due to the use of sporting events for manifestations of a non-sporting nature and damage to the reputation of the football sport.”

Crimes and punishments

The other players were booked for rough gestures. Here is a list of some of the most notorious offenders…

Dele Alli has been banned for one match and fined £3,500 by Fifa for raising his middle finger in a World Cup qualifier against… SLOVAKIA… in 2017. He claimed it was just a friendly joke aimed at Kyle Walker.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has been fined £17,000 for misconduct following his bizarre crotch-grabbing celebration against Juventus in the 2019 Champions League opener.

Then-Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo then repeated the feat when he scored against Atlético in the return and received an identical penalty. However, he avoided the ban.

Montpellier coach Rene Girard has been handed a one-match European ban and fined £4,000 for pointing a finger at opposing player Huub Stevens at the end of a 2012 Champions League tie against Schalke 04.
