Judge Rules Lady Gaga Won’t Pay $500K Reward to Dognapping Accomplice as New Claims Are Rejected

Lady Gaga officially owes Jennifer McBride nothing.

A judge in Los Angeles again ruled that the singer and actress, 37, does not have to pay McBride — an accomplice in the kidnapping of Gaga’s two dogs Koji and Gustavt in February 2021 — a $500,000 pet reward that was offered at the time of the incident, according to court documents came PEOPLE.

McBride, 53, already filed a lawsuit last February against Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, for the award plus $1.5 million in additional damages.

In July, McBride’s attorney argued that by making the “no questions asked” statement with the reward offer and failing to pay, Gaga committed breach of contract, fraud by false promise and fraud by false representation.

However, Judge Holly J. Fujie said in her court order that McBride’s lawsuit is “legally deficient in its entirety” following her “involvement in theft” and noted that McBride was charged and pleaded no contest to charges of receiving stolen property in 2022. and therefore “he had no right afterwards to benefit from their misdeed by seeking the performance of the contract.”

Judge Fujia’s final decision on Monday comes after McBride was given 20 days to correct her filing, arguing that she was “in no way involved in the theft” and only “took possession” of the dogs to return them, according to the documents which the “Rain on Me” singer’s legal team said “makes no sense.”

According to the documents, the court now “finds that nothing is stated in [first amended complaint] changes this conclusion.” The judge will not allow McBride another revised appeal and the case is closed.

At the time of the incident, McBride was dating accomplice Harold White, Jaylin White’s father. Jaylin participated in the robbery and shooting, along with James Jackson and Lafayette Whaley.

A previous news release from the Los Angeles Police Department said the pair were “determined to be accomplices following the initial crime.” They were then held on suspicion of complicity in attempted murder, for which McBride was ultimately not convicted.

Jackson, who shot Fischer, pleaded no contest to attempted murder with great bodily injury and was sentenced to 21 years in prison in December 2022. Because of his plea, lesser charges — including conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree robbery, assault with a semi-automatic firearm and being a felon who was carrying a concealed firearm in the vehicle — were released.

Fischer, who suffered a collapsed lung in the shooting and stayed with Gaga during her recovery, shared a statement during Jackson’s sentencing. He explained that he went into debt after the shooting and told Jackson, “I forgive you. You completely changed my life with the attack. I know I can’t fully move on from the night you shot me until I say those words to you.”
