Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid Reunite 21 Years After Far From Heaven: ‘Wonderful Coincidence’

Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid had a surprise reunion more than two decades after they starred in the film Far from paradise together.

The pair played a 1950s husband and wife in Todd Haynes’ 2002 film.

Moore, 62, was a guest at Good morning America Wednesday to promote his new film May December (another collaboration with director Haynes), and Quaid, 69, also appeared during the episode to perform from his album Fallen: A Gospel for Sinners.

The former colleagues posed in a joint photo that they shared on GMA accounts on social networks.

Co-host Michael Strahan asked Moore during the broadcast, “We saw you earlier on our set with Dennis Quaid, your Far from paradise costar. How did it feel to meet him again?”

“What a wonderful coincidence that we’re on the show on the same day,” she said. “We hadn’t seen each other in years and I was absolutely thrilled to see him. It was a long time ago. I was pregnant in that movie and my daughter is now 21.”

She and her filmmaker husband Bart Freundlich share son Caleb, 26 next month, and daughter Liv, 21.

Co-host Robin Roberts then asked: “Did you know [Quaid] could sing like he can?” to which Moore replied, “I didn’t know he recorded a gospel album! So I’ll buy it.”

Far from paradise she received four Academy Award nominations, including a Best Actress nomination for Moore. The cast also included Dennis Haysbert, Patricia Clarkson, Viola Davis and James Rebhorn.

In a 2019 video for Yahoo Entertainment, Moore reflected on her career and recalled the creation of Far from paradise. Moore said at the time, “I love Dennis Quaid. We had a good time together. It was pretty great.”

She added: “I love Todd. I love him so much. We have a great working relationship, and I think I was with him every day, I was so happy every day working on that movie. Because it was such an amazing opportunity. I was there, playing himself a great character with a great director, at home — we shot it outside of New York — so it couldn’t have been a better circumstance.”
