Julie Chen Moonves Opens Up About Her ‘Revenge’ Facelift: ‘Hollywood Is Not Kind on Aging Women’

Julie Chen Moonves revealed her departure from 2018 Conversation is what prompted her to decide to “go under the knife” for a cosmetic makeover.

In his new audio memoir But first, GodChen Moonves, 53, claimed that her exit from the CBS daytime show in September 2018 after eight years of hosting the panel series prompted her decision to undergo a “lower facelift,” in part because she was “expected not to look drastically different” from how she appeared on the screens.

“When you’re working in front of television and you’re a woman, you’re expected to look — I’ll just say it: young,” Chen Moonves said in the audiobook.. “You are expected to be pleasing to the eye and to society, especially Hollywood is not kind to old women.”

“And I knew that part of my bread and butter in front of the cameras was to maintain my appearance, stay out of the sun, put on sunscreen and, if I had to, go under the knife,” she continued.

The CBS personality said after her departure with Conversation at the age of 48, cosmetic surgery felt like “a form of treatment” and a way to prove that “these bad guys can’t get the better of me”.

“You know how some people, when a loved one cuts them off, get a revenge body? Well, I wanted to get a revenge face,” she explained, adding, “Having a lower facelift is definitely part of ‘my job’ because I’m not expected to look drastically different from season to season or how people are used to seeing me on TV.”

While Chen Moonves — who continues to host Big Brotherwhich is currently airing its 25th season — believed the cosmetic procedure would be subtle enough that people would think she was “beautiful and rested.” She was soon caught by photographers while visiting the doctor’s office after surgery.

“Leaving one of my doctor’s appointments looking completely unrecognizable and completely wrapped up like a mummy, I didn’t even know I was caught by the paparazzi,” she admitted in the audiobook.

Chen Moonves’ departure from 2018 Conversation it came days after her husband, Les Moonves, stepped down from his position as chairman and CEO of CBS, amid allegations of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen women, which he denied.

At the time of her departure, Chen Moonves – who shares son Charlie, 14, with Lesa – did not mention the allegations against her husband, saying instead that she “needs to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son.”

She continued to stand by her husband on Xu, formerly known as Twitter, at the time calling him a “good man and loving father, devoted husband and inspirational corporate leader.”

“He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being,” she wrote in July 2018. “I fully support my husband and stand by him and his statement.”

But first, God marks the first time Chen Moonves has spoken openly about his departure from Conversationa choice she thought she didn’t have.

“It was a difficult time,” she recalled. “I felt stabbed in the back. I was.”

The audiobook describes the spiritual journey of Chen Moonves, which helped her reconcile her negative feelings about coming out of Conversation.
