Alok Aradhe started practicing as a lawyer on July 12, 1988 after registering as an Advocate before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur. There, he represented clients in cases relating to civil, constitutional, arbitration and corporate matters. In April 2007, he became Senior Advocate of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Thereafter, he assisted Chief Justice GP Singh in revising the fifth and sixth editions of the book “Principles of Administrative Law” written by MP Jain and SN Jain. Later, he was appointed as a visiting professor at the Judicial Officers Training and Research Institute, Madhya Pradesh. On December 29, 2009, he was appointed as the Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and on February 15, 2011, he was appointed as the Permanent Judge. On September 16, 2016, he was posted as a judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
On June 7, 2017, Arad was appointed as the Director of Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy.
On May 11, 2018, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. On September 4, 2018, he assumed the charge of Executive Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority. On November 17, 2018, he was transferred to the Karnataka High Court as a judge.
Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, took over as Acting Chief Justice of the court on July 3, 2022, after his retirement.
In August 2022, a division bench of the Karnataka High Court, headed by Alok Aradhe, delivered its verdict on Manjunath S. Halawar’s plea on Azaan’s plea read out over the loudspeaker. In his ruling, the judge refused to issue an order to mosques not to use loudspeakers because it “did not infringe the fundamental rights of people of other faiths.” However, the court issued directions to the authorities to ensure that regulations on noise pollution are not violated. The judgment reads,
Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution embody the principle of tolerance that characterizes Indian civilization. Article 25(1) of the Constitution gives people the fundamental right to freely profess, practice and propagate their religion. However, the above rights are not absolute rights but are subject to restrictions on public order, morals, health and other provisions of Part III of the Constitution of India. The contention that the content of Azaan violates the fundamental rights of the petitioners as well as persons of other faiths is unacceptable. “
The collegium of the Supreme Court recommended Alok Aradhe as the chief judge of the Telangana High Court in July 2023.
