She was the top student in grades 10 and 12. She received her degree in Zoology from BLP College, Masaurhi, Bihar. Before trying her hand at Bigg Boss 11, she taught around 30 primary school students.

Profession
After college, Jyoti auditioned for Bigg Boss Season 11 (Padosi Bajayenge Barah) and was selected as a commoner. On day 28, she was kicked out of her home by a public vote. She revealed that she had finished her studies and wanted to become an actress.

At home, she is close to co-contestant and TV producer Vikas Gupta. About a year after Bigg Boss 11 ended, in 2019, Vikas Gupta announced that he had sent Jyoti to an acting school and prepared her as an actor.
