Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant Canceled After 2 Seasons at Max

Max canceled Stewardess after two seasons, PEOPLE confirmed.

The first season of the Kaley Cuoco-led series debuted on the streamer in 2020, with the second part airing in 2022. Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, the series also starred Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, Deniz Akdeniz and Rosie Perez.

“What began as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into a remarkable life flight,” Cuoco wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two exciting seasons.”

She added: “Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful to everyone involved in bringing this wildly original series to life.”

Showrunner and executive producer Steve Yockey also spoke about his experience on the show.

Stewardess was a truly passion project, and the reception from viewers and critics was pretty amazing,” he said. “Our unorthodox spectacle of the show really found people. As we all move on to new projects, those two seasons of television and the incredible team of professionals behind them will always remain at the top of my list.”

Cuoco earned two Emmy Award nominations in 2021 and 2022 for her performance as Cassandra “Cassie” Bowden, an unstable flight attendant implicated in a murder. She received another award in 2021 for her role as EP.

“This was the honor of my career,” she told PEOPLE of the moment she won her first nomination. “When the announcements were made, my heart swelled. But I feel like I’ve already won.”

The Big Bang Theory The alum, who also served as a producer on the series, admitted that the behind-the-scenes role was somewhat uncharted territory when she first started.

“I’ve never done a show,” Cuoco said. “I thought, ‘I don’t even know how people do it!’ And I didn’t realize, until this show, how many people were involved in getting this thing off the ground.”

In May 2022, Cuoco told PEOPLE exclusively that there are no plans for a third season.

“Now, I’m like, ‘Well, we made two. We should probably be done.’ And I think I was outnumbered by that thought,” she explained at the time. “There’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this point, the plane has landed.”

Cuoco admitted that she “might come back,” though she doesn’t want to do it right away.

“I think I need a minute. I just kind of feel like we just finished,” she said. “Some of my favorite shows on TV take a while to come back, and then I get really excited for the new season. I want to make sure the fans are excited and we’re not pushing too hard.”
