Kalyani Singh is an Indian professor. She is the daughter of Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Sabina Singh. She was accused of involvement in the high-profile 2015 murder of former state gunman and advocate Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, alias Sippy Sidhu.

Kalyani was reportedly in a relationship with Sippy Sidhu, a corporate lawyer and state shooter who was murdered in 2015. Sidhu owns a law firm called Sippy Siddu LLB in SAS Nagar (Mohari), Punjab. Apparently, their relationship soured in 2015.

The murder of Sippi Sidhu
Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, also known as Sippy Sidhu, was shot dead by unidentified persons on September 20, 2015, at a park in Sector 27, Chandigarh. According to police, a .12-caliber gun was used in the crime and approximately four bullets were fired at him. Later, UT police registered a murder case at Sector 26 police station. Sidhu’s family has accused Sippy’s ex-girlfriend Kalyani of murdering him. According to Sidhu’s mother,
We told the police that the judge’s husband and one of their relatives had threatened Sippi, and I told him to be cautious. The judge’s daughter also came to our house in August and asked Xipi if he would marry her. We suspect he was murdered because he refused to marry the girl. A police investigation will reveal the real culprits. “
In 2016, the case was handed over to the CBI at the request of the Chandigarh government. During the preliminary investigation by the CBI, Kalyani’s alleged role in the murder case cropped up. The agency further filed an untracked report in the court seeking further investigation into Kalyani’s role. In September 2016, the CBI announced an award of Rs. Anyone who has clues about Sidhu’s killer and can help the agency solve the case will get a reward of Rs 5 lakh. Later, the CBI published an advertisement in the newspaper saying,
There is reason to believe that the murderer Sipi was accompanied by a woman when the murder occurred. We also have the opportunity to come forward and be contacted if this woman is innocent. Otherwise, she should be presumed to be a party to the crime. “
In 2021, the agency has increased the award amount to Rs. 10 lakhs and requested the public to come forward if they have any vital information about the murder. However, the CBI case failed to progress. During the hearing, the CBI asked the court to give the agency a month’s time to submit a status report. In June 2022, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in its application for Kalyani’s 10-day remand, stated that it wanted to interrogate Kalyani to find another person involved in the crime as well as the weapons and vehicles used in the crime. A CBI spokesperson said,
During further investigation, it was found that the accused (Kalyani Singh) was allegedly involved in the case. As a result, she was examined and arrested. “
Kalyani’s lawyers, on the other hand, opposed the CBI’s police remand request, calling it an abuse of law. they said,
This is a six-year-old case and the CBI even filed an untracked report. She (Kalyani) had earlier participated in the investigation but no incriminating evidence against her was found. “
However, Chandigarh CBI Special Judicial Magistrate Sukhdev Singh dismissed Kalyani’s lawyer’s plea and granted Kalyani’s four-day remand. Sukhdev Singh said in his verdict,
Although this is an old case and previous attempts to uncover the true crime have been unsuccessful, the CBI has been working hard to gather evidence. Reducing police remands at this stage will only hamper early investigations. “
The court also directed Kalyani’s lawyers to remain at the spot during the investigation at the police station and not to actively participate or interfere in the investigation process. The court allowed Kalyani to use her own clothes while in CBI custody, subject to inspection.
CBI Disclosure
Refusal to marry leads to murder
The CBI investigation concluded that Kalyani was in a relationship with Sippi and wanted to marry him. However, Sipi’s family did not approve of their relationship, which apparently led to Sidu’s murder. In a media chat, the CBI attributed Sippy’s murder as:
She wanted to marry him, but her proposal was rejected by Sipi’s family. Sippy leaked her objectionable photos to her parents and friends, embarrassing Kalyani and her family. “
CBI further said,

Accused Kalyani of conspiracy
CBI investigation also revealed that Kalyani conspired with an unidentified assailant to eliminate Sippi Sidhu. Facts/Trivia
- According to an affidavit filed before Justice Sabina in 2010, Kalyani had 400 grams of gold and a bank balance of Rs 100. 50,000.
- Sippy’s family has been waging an ongoing campaign since 2015 to seek justice for Sidhu. They created a Facebook page called “Justice for Sippy Sidhu” which has about 13,000 followers. The page is apparently managed by Sidhu’s brother Jasmanpreet Singh. The page has frequent posts accusing Kalyani and her parents of Sippi’s murder.
