Ella Emhoff denies rumors about her mental health.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, the 25-year-old stepdaughter of Kamala Harris responded to rumors of a mental breakdown and hospitalization after the 2024 presidential election with an impassioned post on her Instagram Stories.
“Okay, I’m just going to come out and say it,” she captioned the mirror selfie. “There are rumors that I had a mental breakdown and that I went to the hospital. It’s not true.”
Emhoff continued, “Fuck you too if you spread it out there.”
The fashion designer addressed the emotional photos of herself that circulated after Harris gave her concession speech on Nov. 6.
“There is nothing wrong with showing emotions and crying,” she added. “Anyone who says there is probably needs a good cry.”

Emhoff emphasized that “I have struggled with my mental health all my life and I am not ashamed of it.” She concluded the post by mentioning her dog: “I was literally just here playing fetch with Jerry.”
The post included a mirror selfie of Emhoff in baggy jeans and a cropped white T-shirt as Jerry looked at a blue toy dog in her hand.

That same day, Emhoff’s mother Kerstin, who welcomed Ella with ex-husband Douglas Emhoff in 1999, called the rumor “MAGA bs” on Xu in reference to supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
Leave my children alone, wrote the mother of two. “Ella is great and having a great day with her mom! Being able to show your emotions is something we should all hope for. It’s okay not to feel great right now.”
Kerstin added: “We don’t let anyone break up our family.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Harris, 60, addressed the nation at Howard University in Washington, DC, after Trump, 78, surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure a presidential victory.
“Let me say, my heart is full today,” the Democratic candidate said in her speech. “Full of gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country and full of determination. The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, it is not what we fought for, it is not what we voted for. But hear me when I say, hear when I say, the light of America’s promise will always burn.”
