Kanika Kapoor was born on 21 August 1978 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (45 years; as of 2023). She comes from a business class family with a musical background. Kanika studied at Loreto Convent School, Lucknow, and went on to pursue her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Bhatkande Music College, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She started studying music with Pandit Ganesh Prasad Mishra at a very young age. At the age of 11, she got the opportunity to sing on All India Radio (AIR).
Apart from singing, she is also a trained Kathak dancer.

Her father Rajiv Kapoor is a businessman. He is the third generation of the family business in the electrical trade. Her mother Poonam Kapoor is a chicken products exporter and runs a boutique called Kalakrutti.
She has an older brother, Sasha, who owns a company in London.

Kanika met Dr. Raj Chandok (her cousin’s best friend) at her cousin’s wedding in Khajuraho and fell in love with him. The couple tied the knot in 1997 and moved to London. They have two daughters, Aayana and Samara, and a son, Yuvraaj. All her children have British citizenship. The couple split in 2010 after about 15 years together. Kanika finds out that her husband cheated on her. The couple divorced in 2012.
On May 20, 2022, she married NRI businessman Gautam Hatiramani.
Profession
Kanika Kapoor made her debut in 2012 with the song “Jugni Ji” featuring Dr. Zeus. The song, a remix of the Pakistani Sufi song “Alif Allah”, became a huge commercial success within weeks of its release.
She started her Bollywood playback singing career in 2014 with the song “Baby Doll” from the movie “Ragini MMS 2”. The song became widely popular and critically acclaimed.
Later, she lent her voice to popular songs such as “Lovely”, “Chitiyaan Kalaiyaan”, “Nachan Farrate”, “Jugni Peeke Tight Hai”, “Jab Chaye Tera Jadoo” and “Beat Pe Booty”.
In 2015, when Prime Minister Modi visited the UK, she sang a welcome song for Modi.
In 2018, she performed for the second time in front of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Kanika sang the Indian national anthem.
Apart from singing, she also runs her own fashion brand ‘Kanika Kapoor: House of Chikankari’ which promotes embroidery and textile decorative arts.
In 2016, Kanika endorsed Swiss watch manufacturer 88 Rue du Rhone.

- Singer and music producer Dr. Zeus was unhappy with Kanika as he was not credited as the producer of her debut song “Baby Doll Main Sone Di”. Dr. Zeus expressed his anger in the interview and stated that the Meet Bros reaped the fruits of his hard work as they were given credit for the song.
- After she tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 20, 2020, she was heavily criticized on social media for downplaying the seriousness of the disease; as she attended at least three gatherings in Lucknow, including at Overnight in a five-star hotel in the city. According to some medical officials at the Sanjay Gandhi PGIMS in Lucknow, where the singer was undergoing treatment, she often lost her temper and wanted celebrity-style treatment.

- She was born into a family with musical roots. Her uncle learned music from the late Pandit Ganesh Mishraji and she would often sit with them and practice music.
