Kapil Kak is a retired Indian Air Force Marshal. He served in the flying branch of the Indian Air Force for thirty-five years. Kapil Kak served during the 1965 Indo-Pak war and participated in Air Force bombing missions during the 1971 war. During the war he served as a navigator in transports, bombers and in the Air Force Headquarters Communications Squadron.

Kapil Kak was born in Kashmir, India. After completing his studies, he graduated from the Defense Staff College (DSSC) and the National Defense College (NDC) in 1975. He then went to the University of Madras and the University of Allahabad for postgraduate studies in Defense/Strategic Studies. In November 1975, he joined the 31st DSSC (Sqn Ldr) course and in December 1990, he joined the 30th NDC (Air Cmde) course.

- Kapil kak was awarded Vishist Seva Medal and Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 1981 and 1994 respectively. During this award ceremony, it was announced that he had flown the highest capacity jet aircraft for more than 5,000 hours while serving in the Indian Air Force.
- Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha led India’s “Concerned Citizens” delegation during his tenure in the Indian government, and Kapil Kak joined the delegation as a member of the delegation in 2017 to participate in negotiations related to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict .
- In 2019, Kapil Kak was one of many petitioners in India who approached the Supreme Court against the Narendra Modi-led government’s abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir . Kapil Kak said in an interview with Al Jazeera that the abrogation of Article 370 will worry the residents of Kashmir. He said,
(It is) a secret permanent resident.Kashmiris should be worried… The impact of this notification will be felt in [the] Jammu [region] Because not many people have entered Kashmir in the past 15 years. “
He said in another media interview that he had doubts about the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He further added that he believes in India’s democracy and pluralistic culture. He told,
I have multiple identities. First of all, I am an international citizen. I am also a very proud Indian. I joined the Indian Air Force in 1960 and chose combat flying. I believe in India’s democracy, pluralism and deep-rooted secularism. In the Air Force, I absorbed the culture of where I was stationed. Finally, I am a Kashmiri first and a Kashmiri Pandit secondly and I have a problem with the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. “
