He graduated in Hotel Management from Amity University, Gurgaon. According to many videos uploaded by Kapil Sangwan, he wanted to join the Delhi underworld since his childhood.

Join the underworld
According to Kapil Sangwan’s Facebook profile, he joined the underworld in 2016. Kapil was known for extorting money from local businessmen in southwest Delhi and became a rival of feared criminal Manjeet Mahal. Kapil remained on the run until Rajasthan police arrested him after a shootout and he was sent to jail in 2016.
Flee the country
In 2019, Kapil Sangwan was paroled for one month. While on parole, Kapil’s associates organized a huge party at a farmhouse on government property in Najafgarh, inviting convicts from southwest Delhi and Haryana. However, before Kapil could arrive, the crime branch raided the party and arrested 22 gang members. Later, after his parole ended, Kapil failed to show up and disappeared. His family has also not been informed of his whereabouts, according to a senior official on duty. The official said,
Kapil didn’t show up to parties and even went underground after his parole ended. After checking with his family, police discovered he was missing. “
In 2020, Kapil fled from India to London with a fake passport. Since then, he started running a criminal network in India.
Nafi Singh Rathod Murder Case
On February 25, 2024, INLD leader Nafe Singh Rathi was murdered near the Bahadurgarh railway crossing in Jhajar. The incident occurred when the car of INLD state president and former MP Nafe Singh Rathi was parked in a block. At that moment, unknown persons in an i10 car opened fire on him, resulting in his death.

The next day, on February 26, 2024, Kapil Sangwan admitted responsibility for the incident through an Instagram post. He claimed that his men carried out the mission and said he would not have taken the action if the police were doing their job properly. His post read,

Nafe Singh rathee ne power mai hoker jitne logo ki hatya or property kabza keri pura bahadurgarh ko pta hai lakin koi kuch nhi bool paya iski power mai hone ki wajha sa. Delhi Police has asked the Interpol branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation to issue a Red Notice (RCN) against Kapil Sangwan after he confessed on social media.
