Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023: The annual Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrates the victory of Indian soldiers in conquering the mountains occupied by the Pakistani Army. Pakistani forces, disguised as militias, infiltrate the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC). This marks a significant escalation of tensions between the two nuclear-weapon states. India responded with a military campaign to crack down on the intruders. The battle saw intense fighting at high altitude and both sides suffered significant losses.
The conflict between India and Pakistan had major regional and international implications, and ultimately resulted in India regaining control of the previously occupied territory. It is important to note that Kargil War involves a combination of conventional warfare, mountain warfare, and air combat. Some of the weapons used in the Kargil War were:
- Small arms: Rifles, machine guns, and other small arms used by infantry units for close combat.
- Artillery: Both sides deployed various artillery pieces, including artillery and mortars, to long-range bombardment of enemy positions.
- Tanks: Armored units use tanks to provide firepower and support in offensive operations.
- Missiles and Missiles: Short-range rocket and missile launchers are used to strike precisely at enemy positions.
- Helicopters: Both sides use helicopters for troop transport, reconnaissance and air support.
- Fighter aircraft: The Indian Air Force and the Pakistani Air Force participated in the air war, using fighter aircraft such as MiG-21, MiG-29, Mirage 2000 (India) and F-16 (Pakistan).
- Drones (UAV): Both countries have used UAVs for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) purposes.
- Anti-aircraft guns: Anti-aircraft guns are used against enemy aircraft.

Laser guided bomb

A guided bomb known as a laser guided bomb (LGB) is more accurate than an unguided bomb when it comes to hitting a target because it uses semi-active laser guidance. Laser-guided bombs were originally developed by the United States during the Vietnam War, and immediately demonstrated their usefulness in hitting difficult targets with great accuracy. These weapons track identified targets with lasers, usually in the infrared spectrum, and use onboard electronics to change their glide path to hit the target accurately.
