Karl Tucker II, a former athlete for Great Falls CMR and Montana State, passed away last week; a memorial service will be conducted in his honor next week.

According to MTN Sports, Tucker, who was 25 years old, experienced a cardiac incident. The memorial service will be place in the Panorama Room at the Great Falls International Airport on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, on the same day at 11 a.m. at Sacajawea Elementary School, friends of Tucker are asked to play hoops in his honor.

In an interview with MTN Sports, former CMR teammate and 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year Andrew Grinde said, “I’m just trying to wrap my mind around how good of a person he was to so many.” He was the ideal motivator for me to work hard and made life and playing football much more fun.

Prior to CMR’s season-opening game against Kalispell Flathead on Friday, the squad gathered at the 6-yard line for a minute of silence in Tucker’s memory. The “Magnificent Seven” Rustler fight song was then played especially by the CMR band.

Gary Lowry’s Rustlers squad finished second in the state in 2014 thanks in large part to Tucker, who graduated from CMR in 2016 and was selected to the Tribune’s Super-State all-star team that year.

In addition to being an all-state guard in basketball, Tucker concluded his football career as the Rustlers’ top pass-catcher with 130 receptions. From 2016 to 2019, he played both running back and receiver at Montana State. With 15 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, six catches for 27 yards, and other special teams contributions, he had a successful MSU career.

“To lose someone so early in his life is incredibly sad,” MSU head football coach Brent Vigen wrote in an email to 406mtsports.com. “Anytime a former Cat passes it’s a sad day but to lose someone so early in his life is a sad day.” The program sends its condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and teammates.

While playing for the Bobcats in 2017, Tucker spoke about the love and support he received from his family and the Great Falls community in an interview with the Tribune.

“I’ve repeated it numerous times. I’ve been around a lot because my dad is in the military, but I truly consider Great Falls to be my home,” Tucker said. “Everyone there has been extremely kind to me. My parents, Karl and Andrea, are adamant CMR supporters and an outstanding woman named Lynda Morin. According to MTN, Tucker was engaged to be married and employed in the medical sales sector in Idaho.

“He was a truly important buddy. Despite the many challenges he had in life, he never lost his cheerful outlook and his smile. He was the most genuine person and unquestionably the life force in any space, according to Grinde.
