Kate Hudson’s Fuzzy Coat Is an Easy Addition for Holiday Outfits That Feel Too Bland

It’s really cold outside, but Kate Hudson came prepared.

The Bride wars the actress got a taste of winter earlier this week, so of course she bundled up accordingly. She started with a chunky turtleneck sweater, a style worn by celebrities that took off last fall, and a pair of baggy jeans as the base of the outfit. She then draped a stunning puffy coat on top as an alternative to puffers and jackets – and my personal favorite for holiday gatherings.

She also carried a bag over her shoulder, which I assume is because the straps of a shoulder bag or a roomy purse wouldn’t fit well over her thick coat. (I grew up in Chicago, so I learned this the hard way.)

My parents were right: Whenever I don’t cover my neck on a cold day, I usually get sick. Scarves annoy me more than they help, so they are turtlenecks move. This one is nice and long in the back and not as tight as a thermal layer. It also has a “premium feel,” according to one customer.

Whenever my outfit doesn’t look the way I want it to, I throw on a faux fur coat.

Last Christmas is a great example: I was wearing black pants and a gray sweater, but something just wasn’t right. I threw on a red shearling coat similar to Taylor Swift’s and it finished off the look.

I don’t need to own this coat (though I do) to know it would do the same. It looks as comfortable as my shaggy nightgown and has stylish details that the puffer doesn’t have – namely lapels and buttons. I also like this one from Revolve, which isn’t sheared but has a smoother faux fur fabric like the Hudson.

I liked the Levi’s jeans I currently own, so I would like to get a new pair of this brand. The bars at the bottom of these are less pronounced and therefore look more modern. They also have over 1,000 positive reviews, and the silhouette is the one recently worn by Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon. In other words, customers and celebrities alike have a positive attitude towards flowy denim.

Shoulder bags are also creeping in everywhere — so this Kate Spade bag is high on my wish list. It comes in four colors, although black and sparkly green are two options I can’t decide between, and it’s more affordable than some of my other bags, even though this bag is designer.
