Kate Middleton Rocks a Hair Change — Curtain Bangs! — in Fresh Style for Fall

Kate Middleton’s fall is off to a great start.

The Princess of Wales, 41, visited HMP High Down prison in Surrey, England, on Tuesday, stopping as a patron of The Forward Trust ahead of UK Addictions Week. Princess Kate arrived in style in a navy blue Alexander McQueen suit (the day after it was announced that her wedding dress designer Sarah Burton was leaving the label as creative director) and wore waves in her new hairdo — giving a better look at the hair change.

Over the weekend, Kate debuted the new mod at the 2023 Rugby World Cup group stage match between England and Argentina. The princess (who is patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League) appears to have freshened up her tresses with subtle curtain bangs, face-framing layers and a center part. Although she still had light highlights, the shade of her hair looked slightly darker than during the summer months. Kate sported some soft curls in her hair during the rugby match and turned up the volume for her latest outing.

The Princess of Wales donned a prettier dress with more frills (plus an armband!) for a visit to the prison on Tuesday, where she learned more about how inmates and their families support themselves through addiction. Addiction was one of the first issues Kate took on after marrying Prince William in 2011, and led to her advocacy for mental health awareness, particularly in relation to young people.

At HMP High Down, she saw first-hand how the Forward Trust, of which she is a Royal Patron, helps people in the criminal justice system to manage and recover from addiction. She shadowed the experience of a family visiting the facility, starting with the necessary security process, and heard about efforts to improve visits to children. High Down, a men’s prison with about 1,100 inmates, is working to make it a more positive experience, especially for children.

Kate has worked with addiction charities for more than a decade, helping her understand “the complexities of mental health and has provided a wealth of information about her work in the early years”, her office at Kensington Palace said. “Experiences in early childhood, before the age of five, have been shown to have a significant impact on adult lives, including resilience and the ability to cope with adversity.”

Kate’s fall fringe and darker hair color are a departure from her summer hair. At the Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Charity Polo Day, Wimbledon and a surprise family trip to the Royal International Air Tattoo, she wore her hair straight with a subtle side parting – a simple style for busy days.

However, Kate has had a practice with bangs in the past and seems to cut them off every few years. She previously wore tassels in 2015 and 2012, as well as at her graduation in 2005 at the University of St. Andrews, where she and William met.

The Princess of Wales may have a permanent appointment for an autumn refresher, as she changed her hairstyle around this time last year. In September 2022, she stepped out with shorter, layered locks than she had over the summer to attend a promotion day with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at Lambrook School.

Kate and William’s children enrolled as new pupils at private prep after the family moved from London to Windsor, and photos of the preview day were released to mark the new school’s milestone.

Kate herself tried her hand at styling her hair! During a 2021 video call with fellow parents, the royal mother opened up about taking on several new roles amid the coronavirus pandemic, including one her children weren’t exactly thrilled about.

“As parents, we have the day-to-day elements of parenting, but I guess during quarantine we had to take on additional roles where others in our communities or in our lives would help us,” she said. . “I became a hairdresser in this closure, to the horror of my children.”
