Kate Middleton Tells Cancer Patient She 'Got So Attached' to Her Chemotherapy Port in Candid Comment

Kate Middleton personally revealed her experience of cancer treatment at her first official engagement of the year.

The Princess of Wales, 43, made a surprise visit to Marsden Royal Hospital on January 14, confirming that she had received treatment at the center and was joining Prince William as patron of the hospital. Princess Kate met with people undergoing treatment and staff, speaking to one patient about her feelings about the chemotherapy treatment port.

“I got so attached to it,” Princess Kate said, joking that she hesitated when told: “You can take it out now.” Daily Mail reported.

Although the Princess of Wales did not reveal the details, the Cleveland Clinic defines a chemoport as a small implantable device, attached to a vein, that can be used for treatment, including chemotherapy. On second thought, the royal said she was told to “make sure you wear all your warm stuff” for chemotherapy, due to side effects.

The princess praised the care team at the Royal Marsden Hospital, saying: “They were fantastic. You feel in good hands.”

The Royal Marsden opened in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education, and Princess Kate thanked the center for its care in a personal message on X later on January 14 revealing she was in remission.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank The Royal Marsden for taking such good care of me over the past year. My heartfelt thanks to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and I as we navigated everything,” Princess Kate began. “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we received throughout my time as a patient was exceptional.”

The Royal said she hopes to use her new role as Patron to support research and clinical excellence, “as well as promoting the wellbeing of patients and families, we could save many more lives and transform the experience of all those affected by cancer.”

“It’s a relief to be in remission now and I’m staying focused on recovery,” Kate said of what’s next. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis knows, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. A Kensington Palace spokesman said it was important for Princess Kate to visit the Royal Marsden as a show of support.

“The Princess wanted to take the trip to show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also to highlight the world-leading care and treatment that Marsden provides,” a spokesman said.

The Princess of Wales stepped out ahead of the first anniversary of the palace announcing on January 17 that she had “planned abdominal surgery”. Princess Kate later revealed that the cancer was discovered then in a March 2024 announcement that she was being treated for cancer.
