The couple told PEOPLE what they thought of each other’s fashion choices at the Footwear News Achievement Awards in NYC on Wednesday
Kate Upton and Justin Verlander teamed up in style heaven on the red carpet on Wednesday night.
The couple went on a stylish date at the 37th Annual News about footwear Achievement Awards at Cipriani South Street in New York and told PEOPLE what they thought of each other’s style.
When asked to describe his wife’s style, Verlander, 41, said Upton, 31, is “effortless.”
Wearing a floor-length black satin dress with an open back and a plunging neckline, the model lived up to the compliments showered by her husband.
As for how she would describe her other half — who wore a satin jacket and black bow tie to match his wife — Upton says of Verlander, “He’s all about quiet luxury.”
Of the Houston Astros pitcher, he adds, “He’s very classy.”

The couple got engaged in 2016 and married the following year in Italy — just days after Verlander won the World Series with the Houston Astros.
It was a storybook wedding, the pitcher told PEOPLE afterward.
“The moment the door opened and I saw her walking down the aisle, I lost it. She looked so beautiful, and I was looking forward to that day for a long time – he said then. “All the emotions came through and it was everything I imagined it would be and more.”

They had a daughter together, Genevieve, in 2018, and since becoming parents, the two have fallen even more in love with each other.
On Father’s Day this year, Upton celebrated Verlander on Instagram as she gushed, “I love watching you be the most amazing #GirlDad… Vivi and I are so lucky to have you @justinverlander. ❤️”
“Nothing is better than being a dad. 😩❤️,” the pitcher said on Instagram in 2022 when he shared an adorable photo of Genevieve, now 5, giving him a big hug.

As a father, Verlander has previously been candid about how long he plans to stay in the MLB as he and Upton juggle their busy schedules.
In 2019, he told PEOPLE that Genevieve pushes him “to stay fit and healthy and be as good a pitcher as I can be. I want him to be able to remember me on the field.”

“I’d like to be able to play long enough that my daughter can see me and remember me playing baseball when she grows up,” he said.
She was less than two years old at the time, but he said: “It’s the most amazing experience of my life and being a dad, I really can’t put into words how much I love this little girl.”
