Katie Holmes Ditched Winter Boots in the Dead of Winter for Mary Jane Shoes and Playful Socks

Temperatures are literally freezing in New York right now, but that hasn’t stopped Katie Holmes from breaking out the Mary Janes.

In many ways, Our City star looked like a classic urban woman on her winter commute, double fisted at Starbucks in sunglasses and a long woolen coat. But Holmes, 46, switched things up on the ankles, ditching the leather boots and sneakers for a pair of white ballet flats worn over black socks. The bold choice worked well with her cropped jeans, giving these trusty warm-weather essentials a moment to shine in the off-season.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Holmes wear Mary Janes. She’s a fan of the style year-round: She wore a powder blue pair last spring, and recently stepped out in silver Franco Sartos (currently on sale at Amazon!). These white faux leather shoes are very similar to the ones we’ve seen Holmes wear recently. The classic strap and buckle are there – allowing for a custom fit – but the top here is rounded instead of pointed.

These close-fitting flip flops are especially handy for winter because of the textured bottom that helps grip on slippery surfaces. Replace them with black socks like Holmes, either worn with jeans or a pair of fleece-lined leggings for extra warmth or dressed up with a dress or as a striking finish to gray trousers.
