Keanu Reeves Says His 'Heart' Wants a John Wick 5 but 'I Don't Know If My Knees Can Do It'

Keanu Reeves’ heart and knees are on different pages when it comes to the other John Wick movie.

The 60-year-old actor recently appeared on CBS Morning to promote his voice role as the villain Shadow in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 along with director Jeff Fowler, where he was asked if there would ever be a fifth John Wick movie.

“You can never say never – but my knees are now saying, ‘You can’t do it anymore John Wick,‘ said Reeves, who is reprising his popular killer character in a cameo for the upcoming spinoff film From the world of John Wick: Ballerina.

He added: “So, my heart [wants to]but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

“That’s why you can voice Shadow for decades to come – no physical limitations, just your voice!” joked Fowler, to which Reeves quipped, “I’m free!”

John Wick: Chapter 4 The End, Explained: Is Keanu Reeves’ Character Really Dead?

Even with the various iterations, co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch still feel that Reeves is the only person who could take on the title role and firmly believe that he played a key role in the success of the franchise.

In an interview with PEOPLE marking the 10th anniversary of the first film, Stahelski, 56, asked the question, “Could you John Wick without Keanu?” before quickly answering the question himself, “No, not the way you see it.”

“The stoicism that John Wick shows is really a big part of who Keanu is,” he continued. “You have to see Keanu on set. I know everybody hears the stories, but he’s always early. He’s always the first one there [and] the last to go.”

“There’s really no other person who could play John Wick,” added Leitch, 49. “He obviously brings the passion, the physicality, and there’s this undeniable emotional quality to him, where you feel for him and he tugs at your heartstrings.”
