“To be able to come in as a mentor and also play is amazing,” he said. “It’s been my home for a few seasons, and the mentoring part is probably one of the things I’ve always enjoyed the most, working with an artist one-on-one.”

Before season 25 Vote officially launched in February, Dan + Shay talked to PEOPLE about the coaching lineup that’s big this time around for the state.

“It’s crazy this year because we have the queen of country music. I mean, Reba is there, and it’s a very scary thing because she’s… Reba,” said Shay Mooney, 32. “I mean, when you have one name, that’s how you know you’ve really made it!”

“[But] we got a double chair,” joked Dan Smyers, 36. “It’s twice as good as having one chair.”

They also talked about the playful feud with McEntire (68) in the series. “We’re warmed up there on the floor. We are both country artists. We compete for local performers who come through Vote,” Smyers said. “Everybody always wants country artists. I feel like it’s one of the best talents out there.”

Fortunately, they are all friends behind the scenes. “Being with Reba is amazing. She is honestly one of the sweetest people we have ever met in our entire lives. I just can’t say enough good things about her. She was always so good to us,” Smyers added.
