Keke Palmer Offers Advice to Other Single Moms: ‘Pour Into Yourself, Have Fun’ (Exclusive)

Keke Palmer knows that if you want to be a good mom, you have to feel good.

The Emmy winner, 30, who is mother to son Leodis “Leo” Andrellton, 7 months, with Darius Jackson, is gearing up for the Black Magic Reimagined conference in Dallas on Oct. 1. As a keynote speaker, she plans to share what she’s learned not only as an in-demand actress, singer, influencer and entrepreneur, but also as an empowered single mother.

“It represents everything I stand for,” she says of Black Magic Reimagined, a summit aimed at educating, empowering and equipping black women, which returns as a live event in Dallas for its fifth year of programming.

“Ultimately, it’s about encouraging young people and other entrepreneurs and helping to give them a platform or connect them together and create a network that allows us to move forward and create more generational wealth.”

It’s in keeping with the theme of Palmer’s new song “Assets,” but it’s also an opportunity for Palmer to talk to other independent moms like herself.

When asked what advice she would give to other single moms, Palmer says, “Man, keep filling your glass and doing the things that your happy. I think that’s the main thing because it will encourage you to give the energy you need to do whatever it takes to be a mother to that child.”

She adds, “Don’t be afraid to make tough decisions that might seem selfish to some, but ultimately allow you to show up the way you need to for your child. If mommy’s wrong, then baby can I’m not right, you know What do I mean?”

Palmer has remained tight-lipped about the current state of her relationship with Jackson, who made headlines in July when he publicly criticized the outfit Palmer wore to watch Usher perform at his Las Vegas residence in July, writing on X (formerly Twitter) at the time, “It’s the clothes… you’re mom.”

Since then, the two have been posting outings together, including lunching for her 30th birthday and attending Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour in Las Angeles. This week, the actress and musician put photos of him and their son Leo on display during a cute slideshow of her Big Boss Tour on Monday at Webster Hall in New York City.

As for the single mother, her message is clear: live your best life.

“Go into yourself, have fun,” she says. “We have to be able to do what we need to do so that we can show up in good will for the child,” she says.
