The House General Investigating Committee submitted its impeachment resolution to the House clerk at around 8 o’clock. It contained the 20 pieces detailing a supposedly years-long pattern of wrongdoing and criminal activity that investigators had described the previous day. Minutes after the articles were filed, numerous members were spotted reading them on the House floor and several could be heard shouting the number of the new articles.

Next, the House will decide whether to accept the articles against Paxton, which could result in the attorney general’s resignation while a Senate trial is ongoing.
The investigating committee’s chair, state representative Andrew Murr, then informed the House that the impeachment resolution cited “grave offences,” which supported the committee’s course of action.
“I want to call up the resolution establishing the articles of impeachment after a period of time for your scrutiny and consideration. Please come meet with me or any other member of our committee if you have any questions at all, said Murr, a Republican from Junction.
The committee unanimously agreed to send the 20 articles of impeachment to the entire parliament during a specially arranged meeting earlier on Thursday afternoon.
There has never been an impeachment of an attorney general in Texas. This unprecedented action has always been reserved for public officials who are the target of severe charges of abuse of authority.
In a statement released earlier on Thursday, Paxton attempted to refute claims that he engaged in unethical behaviour while in office by attributing the development to “corrupted politicians in the Texas House.”
It is a sad day in Texas as we see the corrupt political establishment band together in an illegitimate effort to thwart the will of the people and deny voting rights to our state’s citizens, he added.
An official from Paxton’s office sought to testify before the House committee looking into Paxton’s suspected criminal activity on Thursday afternoon and criticised the committee’s work as “illegal.”
The five-member panel’s brief discussion was interrupted by Chris Hilton, the attorney general’s office’s chief of general litigation, who demanded to speak on behalf of Paxton’s office. Murr shrugged his head and continued the meeting, which almost immediately entered executive session after being called to order.
