Faisal Khan was born in December 1993 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India (31 years old as of 2022). He studied at Parma Mission School in Deoriyapatpalani, Uttar Pradesh. When he passed his eighth standard examination, he became interested in joining the Indian Army. In order to realize his dream, he took the entrance examination to Sainik School while studying in the ninth grade; however, he failed to pass the examination. Later he took the entrance exam for the polytechnic, but his results were not good. He completed his high school studies in an English medium school and 12th standard in a Hindi medium school. While in school, he was a member of NCC. In an interview, he revealed that on the day of the IIT entrance exam, he got up very late in the morning and missed the exam. Subsequently, he took the NDA exam and passed the written test, but was disqualified during the medical examination. He completed his graduation in science and then pursued his Master of Science degree from Allahabad University, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He also holds a Master of Arts in Geography. In an interview, he revealed that when he was in college, his family’s financial situation was unstable, and his father would often ask him to learn something or do a job. Later, he started doing welding work and learned to drive a JCB.

His three friends Hemant, Sonu and Pawan helped him get his tuition. Hemant took him to a coaching institute where Sir Khan started his career teaching a group of 6 students. His teaching skills and quality of teaching have been widely praised; the number of students in his classes has increased from 40 to 50, and he now teaches more than 150 students. He revealed in an interview that his popularity among trainees was growing so much that the owners of the training academy were worried that if he left the training academy, they would also leave the academy. The college boss told him not to reveal his true identity and continue teaching in disguise. Later, he became known as “Mr. Khan”. He has a coaching center Khan GS Studies Center in Patna, Bihar, where he teaches students aspiring to UPSC, BPSC, Indian Railways, SSC etc.

In 2019, he created a YouTube channel called Khan GS Research Centre. He posts educational videos on his YouTube channel related to various topics, especially current affairs. Soon, he became popular on YouTube for his unique teaching style and gained over 19 million YouTube subscribers. In 2020, he launched his own educational app called “Khan Sirficial” on Google Play Store.

FIR against Khan Sir
In 2022, protests broke out in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand demanding cancellation of the Railway Recruitment Commission’s Non-Technical Popular Category (NTPC) exam. On January 27, 2022, an FIR was lodged at Patrakar Nagar police station against Khan Sir, five other teachers and 16 students of his coaching institute for allegedly instigating mobs to set a train on fire and destruction of Indian Railways property. Some protesters were detained by police after the vandalism. Later, when police were recording statements, some protesters revealed Sir Khan’s name. Sir Khan reportedly went underground after he realized that an FIR was lodged in his name and that of five other teachers at his coaching institute. Khan Sir, SK Jha, Navin, Amarnath, Gagan Pratap and Gopal Verma, all six teachers under Sections 147, 148, 151, 152, 186, 187, 188, 323, 332, 353, 504, 506 and 120 Register(B)IPC.
Controversial ‘Suresh Abdul’ video
In December 2022, he sparked controversy with a video in which he explained how the meaning of a sentence changes when a Hindu name is replaced with a Muslim name. In the example, he explained that when the name “Suresh” is used instead of “Abdul”, the meaning of the sentence changes. He said,
Some sentences have two meanings. For example, if you say Suresh is flying a plane, then it has a meaning. But if you say Abdul is flying the plane, it means something different to people…”
Many Indian National Congress leaders, including Surpiya Shrinate, have harshly criticized Sir Khan. Supriya Shrinate reacted to writer Ashok Kumar Pandey’s tweet demanding the arrest of Khan Sir.

Call for ethnic cleansing in Kashmir
In 2023, Sir Khan once again stirred up controversy when he spoke of ethnic cleansing in Kashmir. In one teaching video, Mr. Khan is telling his students how China occupied Tibet in 1959. He went on to say that after China occupied Tibet, it beat the Tibetan people, separated their families and sent them to different parts of China, which made them focus on finding their families instead of fighting for independence. He then compared the situation in China and Tibet with that in Kashmir and said that the Indian government should also send stone-throwing Kashmiris to various parts of India so that there would be complete peace in Kashmir.

- According to reports, he charges only Rs 7,500 for teaching UPSC courses as against the usual fee of Rs 2.50 lakh.
- Khan Sir revealed in an interview that he was once offered a package worth Rs. 107 crore from a reputed educational institution; however, he later refused and decided to teach classes at a fee of Rs. 200.
- In an interview, when asked what his motto in life was, he said:
Be last, but be quick. Look at Baba Ramdev. He was the last person to join the race to sell Ayurvedic products. Hamdard and other Ayurvedic companies were already selling these products, but it was Baba Ramdev who won the race. Same is the case with Reliance Jio. They were also the last company to enter the telecom industry and beat all other companies as well. ”

- In 2019, his coaching institute, Khan GS Research Center in Musallahpur Hat, Patna, Bihar, was bombed. CCTV cameras installed at the coaching academy showed a masked person at the scene of the blast, who turned out to be a boy. Sources said the vandalism occurred after the boy got into an argument with Mr Khan and his staff over taking books from a locker in the library. The boy then vandalized the coaching center with his friends. Sir Khan’s office and a student’s scooter were damaged in the explosion.

- Mr. Khan is also known for using humor while teaching to make teaching more fun. He also uses real-life examples to make his learning material easy to understand.
- He was actively involved in social contribution and opened a Goshala (shelter for stray cattle) and a library in Patna.
- In 2023, he organized a Raksha Bandhan event at his coaching center which attracted more than 10,000 students from different batches. According to sources, Sir Khan personally met each of the girls and tied up Rakhi. The event lasted about two and a half hours. He later claimed that more than 7,000 students tied him to the rakhi. He further said that this is a world record as nothing like this has ever happened before.

- In September 2023, Khan Sir appeared in the show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 15 along with comedian and poet Zakir Khan. In the program, Khan Sir used a unique teaching method to explain the concepts of electrons, protons and neutrons to the host Amitabh Bachchan. Bachchan later expressed his appreciation and said he would always remember this lesson.
