It was a slap that could be heard throughout the room.

For his part, Braun (35) joked why he put so much energy into hitting Macfadyen (49).

Preparation for that scene involved the two actors going through several slapstick sessions the day before and the day of — a ritual they practiced for many of their scenes together, in part to avoid giggling during filming.

“You don’t want it to get old, but we don’t want to laugh,” Braun added. “We just want to get through it.”

Not laughing during the scenes, apparently, was such a challenge for Braun and Macfadyen – who played cousins Greg Hirsch and Tom Wambsgans on the show – that Succession Creator Jesse Armstrong said the crew would plan two extra hours into the shooting schedule if the stage directions required the couple to “make eye contact” or indicate “that their faces are close.”
