Kim Kardashian Shows Off Her Balenciaga Bags (All 129 of Them!) in First Campaign as Brand Ambassador

Kim Kardashian is officially the ambassador of the Balenciaga brand.

On Monday, the luxury fashion house chose Kardashian (43) as its ambassador, and on Tuesday, the reality TV personality starred in her first campaign in a new role – from the comfort of her own closet.

The The Kardashians star fronted the brand’s Closet campaign, celebrating the return of the brand’s iconic Le City bag, which first hit shelves more than two decades ago in 2000.

Lensed by fashion photography duo Inez and Vinoodh, the campaign also features Nicola Peltz, Roh Yoon-Seo, Paloma Elsesser, Patricia Field and Devon Lee Carlson, each posing in a “museum” wardrobe designed to display a collection of their “coveted personal items “, according to the brand.

Kardashian cements her personal relationship with the brand by, instead of posing on a curated set, starring in the campaign from her own closet — where her coveted possession happens to be 129 Balenciaga bags.

And that figure is correct – she counted them herself.

“My guess would be… 130,” Kardashian says in the campaign video, before pausing to count each one, shelf by shelf.

After almost forgetting the bag in her hands, she counted a total of 129. “I’m missing one bag,” she says to the camera. “Society, I’ve won.”

Kardashian brought not only her impressive purse to the campaign, but also her signature style, wearing a tight black bodysuit and her “wet hair.”

After announcing Kardashian’s big — and official — return to Balenciaga on Monday, the reality star released a statement.

“For several years, Balenciaga designs have been a part of many of my looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments,” she said in a statement. “This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and has an innovative approach to design under Demna. For me, this long-term relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what is right.”

“I’m excited for this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador,” she concluded.

The news and new campaign comes just over a year after it announced it was “re-evaluating” its relationship with Balenciaga after the brand sparked controversy with two holiday 2022 ad campaigns.

The first featured photos of children holding purses that looked like teddy bears with leather straps and spiked collars. There were also wine glasses in some of the recordings.

Another included an image of a page from the Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Williams, which found the promotion of child pornography illegal and unprotected free speech.

The campaigns were immediately met with backlash – social media users accused the company of sexualizing children in the ads – and a week later Balenciaga issued a response.

“We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our teddy bear bags should not have been shown with children in this campaign,” the brand wrote in a statement on Instagram, adding that it had “immediately removed the campaign from all platforms .”

The brand also issued a second statement apologizing “for displaying disturbing documents in our campaign.”

“We take this matter very seriously and are taking legal action against the parties responsible for creating the set and including unapproved items for our Spring 23 campaign photo shoot,” the statement said. “We strongly condemn child abuse in any form. We stand for the safety and well-being of children.”
