This weekend he and Andrew are staying at the Balmoral estate in Scotland as the tension around the duke’s mansion heats up.
The king has been funding private guards at the 31-room Windsor compound since Andrew’s £3million-a-year armed police were removed in 2022 amid a US sex-abuse case.
A palace insider told The Sun on Sunday last night: “Everyone is speculating that this means the Duke will have to leave the royal box because what other reason could there be for his insurance to be taken away?
“They are all doing the last weeks of their contract until the end of October. It is not believed that anyone will replace them.
“It’s no secret the king wants him gone.”
It is unclear what will happen to the team after their departure.
In May, it emerged that Charles had been beefing up Andy in a stand-off dubbed the “Royal Lodge siege” – warning that his brother’s life would become “more and more cold and uncomfortable”.
Charles could even reduce the £4 million a year he pays to keep the duke alive.
Earlier this year, The Sun exclusively revealed that Andrew, who lives at the Lodge with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, turned down the chance to move to nearby Frogmore Cottage, Harry and Meghan’s former home.
Friends of the Duke say his “cast iron” 75-year lease on the Lodge means he has no reason to give up his home of 20 years.
Inside Prince Andrew’s ‘narrow world’ this summer from ‘stuck’ in ‘crumbling’ Royal Lodge to holidaying at Balmoral
Palace sources have always insisted that Andrew “remains the king’s brother” and is welcome at family events, but will never return to public office.
Andrew has previously been caught behind the scenes lobbying the Home Office to restore his taxpayer-funded security privilege.
He lost round-the-clock Met Police security after he was invited to Windsor Castle in January 2022 and after the late Queen stripped him of his royal role.
It came after he vowed to fight allegations of sexual assault by Epstein’s ex-slave Virginia Giuffra.
The Duke ended up paying millions of pounds to Mrs Giuffre and the case never came to court.
He denies any wrongdoing.
The fate of the royal lodge remains unclear.
The Sun on Sunday learned that the Royal Household would not be moving any members of the royal family to the property, but are looking for a new tenant.
William and Kate do not want to move their family to the Lodge from Adelaide Cottage.
Two flats in Kensington Palace are being renovated, but neither is intended for Andrew, it is clear.
Andrew arrived at Balmoral on Friday for his summer holiday.
The King’s moving van was spotted at the castle yesterday.
Charles will move in – and host the extended royal family – after spending recent weeks in nearby Birkhall.
The Sun on Sunday did not name the private security company guarding the Royal Lodge.
Both the company and Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
BROTHERLY DUTY
By Ingrid Seward, Royal Biographer
The Duke of York’s plight is a problem King Charles knew he would inherit.
His mother made it clear – if he was unable to work, Andrew was to take care of him as he had during her lifetime.
After ascending to the throne, Charles focused on austerity and announced the reduction of the monarchy.
Minor royals only have protection when they are out.
Andrew kept asking his mom for extra security.
She agreed, as she did to almost everything he demanded.
But his £3m-a-year taxpayer-funded Met Police protection had to go after he was stripped of his royal duties.
Charles is a kind and considerate man.
He didn’t want his younger brother to worry about an intruder in the Royal Lodge.
And the last thing he wanted was for his increasingly weak mother to worry.
So he agreed to fund Andrew’s private insurance.
Charles still rightfully feels that it is his duty and his alone to protect his brother and will continue to do so.
