King Charles appeared in good spirits as he shook hands with the chancellor, after taking a short break from royal duties amid cancer treatment.

The King met Jeremy Hunt at Buckingham Palace in the Private Audience Room, as is customary ahead of the Budget.

His Majesty’s appearance this morning comes after Princess Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith entered the Big Brother Hall of Fame last night – sparking fears it could put further strain on the family.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun before appearing on the show, Gary said he could never do anything to upset the “beautiful” Kate, and called the racism claims against her “sh***”.

But there are fears he could spill royal secrets about his niece and cause further headaches for Charles and company.

The monarch missed a memorial mass for Greece’s late King Constantine last week.

The king was at Windsor Castle earlier in the day but left before the ceremony began.

Prince William also pulled out of the service at the last minute due to a “personal matter”.

In their absence, Queen Camilla has led the royal family in service as she continues to step up and take on new duties.

Today’s meeting with the chancellor comes as Mr Hunt is due to present a financial plan for the rest of the year, including changes such as tax rises, cuts and benefits increases.

Prince Harry’s hurried trip to London proves there is no love between him and the king, says royal expert Arthur Edwards

With much of the nation still struggling with the cost of living, people are anxiously awaiting more information on any new support packages.

And with the UK economy sliding into recession at the end of 2023, many will be anxious to see what changes are made.

The chancellor told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg: “I want, where it is possible to do so responsibly, to move towards a lower tax economy and I hope to lead the way in that direction.”

The Budget is expected to bring changes to the Universal Credit Budget Advance, Inheritance Tax, Stamp Duty, LISA policy, Personal Savings Allowance and more.

Meanwhile, Kate’s mum Carole’s brother Gary said of his niece yesterday: “She’s beautiful on the outside but even more beautiful on the inside and she’s a really caring mum. . . the way the monarchy moves is family-oriented.”

The 58-year-old said he was furious after allegations of racism were made against Kate.

This was followed by an allegation in the Dutch translation of Omid Scobie’s book Endgame, which claims that King Charles and the Princess of Wales asked Meghan and Harry what color their son Archie’s skin might be.

How Charles bravely disclosed his diagnosis to help others

KING Charles has bravely broken royal protocol by sharing his cancer diagnosis.

The senior royals have been tight-lipped about their health battles in the past.

The last senior member of the royal family to be diagnosed with cancer was Charles’ grandfather George VI.

A heavy smoker, George had his left lung removed in September 1951 due to “structural abnormalities”, a few months before his death.

The “abnormalities” were actually life-threatening cancers, but the public never learned of George’s ordeal with cancer.

Buckingham Palace said Charles wanted to share his cancer diagnosis to encourage “public understanding” for cancer sufferers around the world.

Gary added: “It’s absolute bullshit and I didn’t hide my feelings very well when I was offered the chance to say something, I just thought I’d say it the way I saw it. I thought I caught the tone of the nation.

“Kate is 100 percent not racist, neither is Carole.

“My family is not racist and for Kate to be portrayed like that is so far from the truth, it’s ridiculous.”

It’s just one of the many insights Gary is set to reveal during his three weeks in the CBB house.

The royals and the Middleton family were said to be terrified when The Sun revealed in January that he would be appearing on the reality show.
