Model career
Koena started her modeling career while still in school. In 2003, she won the India Gratras Super Model beauty pageant. She was the first runner-up in the 2003 Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant held in Germany. She has appeared in advertisements for some popular brands such as ACP Whiskey, Mirinda, Clinic All Clear, Maruti Alto, and has appeared in fashion weeks in Milan and Beijing many times.

Acting career
Before starting her acting career, Koena Mitra appeared in music videos of songs like Ishq, Aaj Ki Raat, Akh Teri and Channo from Jasbir Jassi’s Stereo Nation.
She made her Bollywood debut in the film Road (2002), in which she sang the song “Khullam Khulla”. Her Bollywood debut as an actor was in Sanjay Gupta’s Musafir (2004), in which she played the role of “Lara”.

She subsequently acted in many hit commercial films such as Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2005), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006) and Anamika (2008). In 2009, she made her first appearance in the Tamil film “Ayan” (2009) under the title “Honey Honey”. In 2010, she made her acting debut in the Tamil film Aasal.
In 2015, she made her Bangladeshi debut with the movie “Besh Korechi Prem Korechi”.

- In 2019, a model named Poonam Sethi filed a lawsuit against Koena, claiming that Koena borrowed money from her and failed to return it. Koena gave a check for Rs. 3 lakhs to Poonam but the check bounced. Koina was reportedly sent a legal notice, but she did not respond. After the hearing, the Metropolitan Court found Koina guilty and sentenced her to six months’ simple imprisonment. She was also ordered to pay Rs. 4.64 Lakhs, including the interest component of Poonam Rs. 1.64 Lakhs. Koina called the case completely false and said she was being framed in the matter.
- In 2017, Koina filed a lawsuit against a stranger who used a different number to harass her. The case was registered under IPC section 509 (words, gestures or conduct intended to insult the modesty of women).
- In 2010, Coyner was heavily criticized for undergoing a nose job that went horribly wrong. It even caused her to lose many projects at the time.
