She couldn’t be happier!
On Wednesday, October 30, Kristin Chenoweth posted some memories from her time at the Wicked in honor of the show’s 21st anniversary. The actress, 56, was the first person to play Glinda in a Broadway play alongside Idina Menzel as Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West.
The Tony winner wrote on Instagram: “21 years ago today we met Elphaba & Glinda at the Gershwin Theater 🩷✨💚 I’m still enchanted by the magic that was created all those years ago.”

She then turned her attention to the upcoming film adaptation, starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. She wrote, “Counting down the days until the world sees @cynthiaerivo and @arianagrande in the movie @jonmchu…” Alluding to one of the show’s most popular songs, “For Good,” she added, “You’ll all be changed for good when you see this. #NationalWickedDay”
Chenoweth wasn’t the only one Wicked alum celebrates his anniversary on Wednesday. Abbott Elementary School star Sheryl Lee Ralph — who played WickedMadame Morrible on Broadway starting in 2016 — also marked a social media milestone. The 67-year-old actress shared photos from her time on the show on X and wrote: “It’s National @WICkED_Musical Day!”

WickedTheir 21 years on Broadway makes it the fourth longest running Broadway show of all time after The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and The lion king. The musical — which won three Tony Awards, including Menzel’s Best Actress in a Musical — is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wizard of Oz the prequel is about how Elphaba became synonymous with the word “wicked” throughout Oz and her unlikely and complicated friendship with Glinda. In October 2023, Chenoweth and Menzel, 53, reunited at the Gershwin Theater in New York to celebrate the musical’s 20th anniversary.
It’s been a very nostalgic fall for Chenoweth with the arrival imminent Wicked movie on November 27. October 28 Rest star posted about watching Wicked the film for the first time at a special screening. “Oh my god, I just watched the movie and I’m dying. I passed away, I’m actually dead, I’m not here,” she told Reel on Instagram. “People are not going to feel good when they see this movie. It’s so good, it’s so special.”

With slides of photos from the night, Pushing daisies star wrote: “I’m in awe. @wickedmovie is a gift to us all.” She continued: “I am beyond proud of my dear angel, @arianagrande. She was born to play this role. I cried all night watching her & @cynthiaerivo. I love them from the bottom of my heart.”

Grande, 31, and Erivo, 37, were on hand to watch the film with Chenoweth and a group that included the film’s director Jon M. Chu, Chenoweth’s husband Josh Bryant, Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz, Maguire and many others Wicked former actors, including the current stars of the Broadway production, Mary Kate Morrissey and Alexandra Socha.
Chenoweth starred as Glinda on Broadway from the show’s opening in October 2003 to July 2004. She has also appeared on Broadway in shows including You’re a good man, Charlie Brown, Promises, promises and Apple tree. It is set to return for the 2025 Broadway season The Queen of Versailleswhich also has music by Schwartz.
